At around 10:42 AM on October 30, the Liberian cargo ship AROSA, crewed by 18 foreign sailors, was en route from Singapore to Hon Gai Port to offload cargo. Upon reaching waters approximately 3.7 kilometers east of Long Chau Island, the vessel collided with Vietnamese fishing boat HP-90880-TS carrying six fishermen.
The impact caused the fishing boat to sink, throwing all six crew members into the sea.
Upon receiving distress reports, the Hon Gai Port Border Guard Station and Border Guard Squadron 2 coordinated with the Quang Ninh Maritime Administration, maritime pilots, and Hon Gai Port to mobilize vessels to the rescue scene.
Rescue teams brought all six individuals ashore, where one was confirmed dead and five sustained injuries. The survivors were transferred to Quang Ninh Provincial General Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
On the afternoon of the same day, the Quang Ninh Provincial Border Guard Command stated that authorities are investigating the cause of the maritime collision.
