Brazilian sports daily Globo Esporte highlighted: “The VinFast – Trong Dong Stadium is engineered with a staggering capacity of up to 135,000 seats. If delivered on schedule, this landmark Vietnamese venue will surpass North Korea’s Rungrado 1st of May Stadium to claim the crown as the world’s largest stadium by seating capacity.”
“VinFast – Trong Dong Stadium is also poised to eclipse India’s Narendra Modi Stadium, the cricket arena accommodating roughly 132,000 spectators,” the Brazilian outlet observed. “This means VinFast – Trong Dong will stand as the world’s largest stadium across all sports disciplines.”
Detailing the project’s aesthetic identity and execution speed, the Brazilian publication added: “Ground was broken on the development in December 2025. The arena has captured international attention with its golden dome design inspired by the bronze drum—an emblematic cultural symbol of Vietnam. The megastructure is targeted for completion in July 2027, ahead of its original August 2028 timeline.”
Spanish news outlet TieneLore equally underscored the unprecedented scale of the venue: “Brazil’s legendary Maracanã accommodates only 78,000 spectators, while Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu holds approximately 83,000. Both iconic arenas will be dwarfed once the 135,000-seat VinFast – Trong Dong Stadium reaches completion.”

“In fact, the VinFast – Trong Dong venue could hold the entire audience of the Bernabéu combined with half the crowd of Atletico Madrid’s Wanda Metropolitano (70,000 seats),” the Spanish paper remarked.
The publication further contrasted the Vietnamese arena with England’s 90,000-seat Wembley Stadium and Spain’s newly renovated 105,000-seat Camp Nou.
TieneLore noted that the mega-venue features structural support pillars soaring 80 meters high, a steel framework exceeding 15,000 tons, and continuous round-the-clock construction shifts. Crews are currently erecting Stands A, B, C, and D simultaneously. Concrete pours for the third-floor roof slabs have commenced in select sectors, while dedicated lifting tower systems are nearing completion to hoist pre-engineered steel dome modules into position.
According to technical timelines cited by international press, reinforced concrete structural works are slated for completion by the end of 2026, paving the way for dome installation, electrical mechanical systems, and interior architectural finishes. The stadium aims for full completion in July 2027, well ahead of the initial August 2028 schedule.
