Da Nang – Visitors to Da Nang are now enjoying a unique experience when booking cyclo rides around the city: vehicles are being equipped with smart guide technology that offers real-time commentary in up to 15 languages, including English, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.
On September 15, the Da Nang Tourism Promotion Center announced the trial launch of technology-equipped cyclo tours designed to combine traditional sightseeing with modern digital experiences.
Smart cyclo tours with multilingual commentary
Unlike the usual cyclo ride where tourists simply enjoy the view, passengers are now provided with individual devices and headphones throughout the journey. Using GPS positioning, the system automatically plays audio commentary whenever the cyclo passes a landmark, sharing historical stories, cultural insights, and real-time introductions to attractions.
Tourists can also interact with an AI chatbot integrated into the application to ask questions and learn more about the places they are visiting.
The guide system supports 15 languages, making it convenient for both domestic and international visitors. Popular routes include trips along the Han River, passing iconic destinations such as Dragon Bridge, APEC Park, Han Market, and Han River Bridge.
A new way to experience Da Nang
Da Nang’s cyclo service has long been part of the city’s cultural identity. Traditionally used for transporting goods, cyclos are now mainly used for tourism in destinations like Da Nang and Hoi An.
Since August 15, the trial program has received positive feedback. A total of 83 selected cyclo drivers have undergone training in device operation, foreign language basics, customer service, and local knowledge. The cyclos are also standardized in design, featuring stainless steel frames, cushioned passenger seats, and sunshades.
Health checks and traffic law training ensure that drivers can provide both safe and informative experiences for visitors.
Free service until end of September
According to the service provider, the introduction of smart commentary has significantly increased bookings.
“The smart cyclo tours with multilingual guide service will be free of charge until the end of September. Starting October, passengers will pay the normal ride fare plus a guiding service fee of about 50,000 VND per trip,” the representative said.
With this initiative, Da Nang aims to enhance the appeal of its city tours, blending traditional charm with innovative technology to provide a memorable and modern travel experience for visitors.
