According to the Phu Quoc Special Zone People’s Committee (An Giang), 14 Indian tourists rescued from the accident had already departed Phu Quoc for Ho Chi Minh City or exited the country in stable condition by the end of July 12.
On the morning of July 13, doctors from Phu Quoc Sun International Hospital coordinated with Cho Ray Hospital to transfer a critically injured Indian patient to Ho Chi Minh City. The patient departed on a 9:35 AM flight to continue treatment. Leaders of the Phu Quoc Special Zone visited the airport to encourage the patient’s family and provided 88 million VND (approximately 3,400 USD) in financial support.
In the afternoon of July 13, the final two foreign survivors also departed the island. Local leaders personally visited these individuals and provided 18 million VND per person (approximately 700 USD). Furthermore, the authorities provided 264 million VND per case (approximately 10,400 USD) to three relatives of the deceased victims. Officials will distribute the remaining funds once they receive further guidance from the Indian Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City.
Previously, on the afternoon of July 12, the Investigation Police Agency of An Giang Province launched a criminal case and detained captain Nguyen Hong Hai to investigate violations of legal regulations regarding the accident. On the same day, authorities transferred the 15 bodies to the Ho Chi Minh City Forensic Center to preserve and process them according to regulations and requests from the Indian side.
The Phu Quoc Special Zone People’s Committee stated that it would continue to coordinate with functional agencies to implement directives from the Prime Minister and the An Giang Provincial People’s Committee. They remain committed to addressing the consequences of the accident and ensuring absolute safety for waterway tourism to prevent any similar incidents in the future.
