Zenrock Aims to Calm Users’ DeFi Wobbles With Decentralized Custody Offering

Crypto custody upstart Qredo has got a new lease of life after being bought out of administration by Dan Tapiero’s 10T Holdings and 1RoundTable Partners. The company is soon to relaunch as Zenrock.

Zenrock, the crypto custody platform built on the remains of Qredo, plans to ease concerns over the security of decentralized finance (DeFi) and accelerate the industry’s growth by teasing users away from centralized offerings with a safer way of looking after their assets.

Investors use centralized exchanges (CEX) and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) because they have a fear of operating in the DeFi world, Chairman Dan Tapiero said in an interview. Even active degens in the crypto space are nervous about using DeFi, he said.

The problem with existing custody models is that investors still risk a central point of failure with the custodian holding their digital assets. Zenrock aims to address this problem with private keys managed through a decentralized multiparty computation (MPC) wallet. MPC wallets split and distribute private keys among several parties, removing the one-point-of-failure weakness.

Users’ fears have a basis in the real world. Decentralized finance hacks remain a major threat to the industry, according to a recent report by blockchain security firm Halborn. Off-chain hacks including the theft of private keys are increasing and accounted for almost 60% of the amount stolen in 2023, Halborn noted. Cross-chain bridges remain a key attack vector for bad actors, it said.

“We can be the security solution in the DeFi and on-chain worlds for cross-chain transactions,” Zenrock CEO Randy Little said in an interview.

The company has designed a hybrid security model whereby the protocol is secured by its own token and by EigenLayer. Zenrock is “renting the economic security in Ethereum from EigenLayer, giving a purpose to this restaked ether,” Little said.

Zenrock plans to use a transaction model and the technology will be made available to developers, institutions and individual investors. The platform is currently in testnet phase and plans to launch later in the year.

Tapiero’s 10T Holdings (10T) and 1RoundTable Partners (1RT) announced the acquisition of substantial assets of Qredo in February after leading a bridge financing round. Little is a partner in both the firms.

“The series of transactions that we did to restructure Qredo into Zenrock has not been done before in the crypto space and included a combination of private lending, debt financing, bankruptcy/administration workout, restructuring, operating, product buildout and soon a mainnet launch,” Tapiero said.

“We are the first to bring practices from the traditional private equity world and apply them to the new digital asset world,” Tapiero said, adding that “many of the traditional finance (TradFi) private equity firms will follow in the years to come.”

Zenrock announced on Aug. 19 the introduction of a decentralized wrapped bitcoin token, called zenBTC.
The crypto custody firm is also backed by the Spartan Group and Maven 11.

“Selling pressure has been building near this level since early August. “Overcoming this resistance from where bitcoin has been selling off since August 9 would take it to a test of its 200-day MA near $62.7K. A consolidation above these levels could dramatically improve sentiment in the entire cryptocurrency market and inspire more active buying,” he added.

Tron’s TRX and Cardano’s ADA were the only major tokens showing gains for traders. ADA rose 3%, while TRX jumped more than 10% on increased network activity following last week’s release of a memecoin generator backed by Tron founder Justin Sun.

Foreign Tourist Rescued After Motorcycle Accident on Son Tra Peninsula

At around 4:24 p.m., Da Nang City’s Police Command Information Center received a distress call. The report stated that a female tourist was trapped beneath a passenger bus on the route to Linh Ung Pagoda in Son Tra District.

Upon receiving the report, the center quickly mobilized the Son Tra District Fire and Rescue Police, along with the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Department, dispatching two rescue vehicles to the scene.

Arriving swiftly, the rescue team assessed the situation. The tourist, who had sustained multiple injuries, was trapped under the rear of the vehicle.

Footage from a dash cam of a vehicle following behind captured the moment the tourist, while rounding a corner, slipped and fell under the passenger bus.

The tourist has been identified as Ms. J., a 31-year-old Korean national traveling with friends on a sightseeing trip to Son Tra Peninsula.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.

Bien Hoa to Have a New Mall Worth Over 6,000 Billion VND

Dong Nai province has recently approved the detailed urban planning at a 1/500 scale for the Aeon Mall commercial center, with a total investment exceeding 6,100 billion VND. The center will be located in Hiep Hoa ward, Bien Hoa City (Cu Lao Pho area).

The People’s Committee of Dong Nai province has decided to approve the task of detailed urban planning at a 1/500 scale for the commercial center on Dang Van Tron Street, Hiep Hoa ward, Bien Hoa City (Aeon Mall Bien Hoa).

The planning area covers nearly 12 hectares, including over 10 hectares designated for the construction of the shopping mall and more than 1.5 hectares for the construction of three surrounding roads.

The province has specified that the organization responsible for the planning is Viet Phat Group Joint Stock Company. The total estimated cost for the project is over 6,100 billion VND. This includes an estimated construction cost of over 3,300 billion VND and compensation, support, and resettlement costs estimated at over 2,250 billion VND.

The planning task aims to concretize the 1/5,000 scale subdivision planning project for subdivision A4 in Hiep Hoa ward and to add commercial service structures that will drive economic and social development in Dong Nai province.

Moreover, this planning will provide a legal basis for investment management, project establishment, and the issuance of construction permits.

As for the characteristics and function, this will be a comprehensive commercial service area, with synchronized investment from architectural structures to technical infrastructure, ensuring maximum exploitation of investment business advantages. At the same time, it aims to create a well-integrated architectural landscape for the central urban area with harmonious and environmentally friendly designs.

The design solution directs the planning area with the mall at the center of the land plot, featuring a maximum height of eight floors and a modern architecture that will become a landmark of the area.

The commercial center project in Hiep Hoa ward was approved by the provincial People’s Committee in August 2023 for investment policy, under the form of investor selection.

In November 2023, the province’s Department of Planning and Investment announced the sole investor registered for the project is Viet Phat Group Joint Stock Company, based at 198 Nguyen Van Linh Street, Tan Thuan Tay ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City.

Previously, the Japanese corporation also constructed Aeon Mall Hai Phong Le Chan with an investment value of around 180 million USD (approximately 4,000 billion VND) on land owned by Viet Phat.

Ministry of Transport Addresses High Airfare Hindering Tourism to Con Dao

The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has acknowledged that limitations in infrastructure and a constrained supply of airline tickets have kept airfares to Con Dao high, but assured that these prices are within regulatory limits.

In response to concerns raised by voters and the National Assembly delegation of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province, the MoT explained that due to current infrastructure constraints, Con Dao Airport cannot accommodate large aircraft like the A320 or A321. Instead, it can only service smaller planes such as the ATR72 and Embraer E190. Consequently, flight operations to Con Dao are somewhat limited.

Following Bamboo Airways’ suspension of the Hanoi – Con Dao route as part of its restructuring efforts, only Vietnam Airlines and Vasco are currently operating flights to Con Dao using ATR72 aircraft.

Specifically, these airlines are running the Ho Chi Minh City – Con Dao route with a frequency of 16 round-trip flights per day and the Can Tho – Con Dao route with a frequency of 5 round-trip flights per week.

“This situation has reduced the number of available tickets on routes connecting to Con Dao, especially during peak travel periods like festivals and tourism seasons. When demand exceeds supply, this has indirectly caused airfares to and from Con Dao to remain consistently high,” the MoT noted.

In light of this, the MoT has directed the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam to inspect the ticket sales practices of Vietnamese airlines. The inspection results confirmed that airfares on routes to Con Dao comply with regulations regarding the pricing framework for domestic passenger transportation.

The Ministry also advised passengers to purchase tickets through official sales channels (such as ticket offices, agents, e-commerce websites, and apps) and to plan their bookings in advance to have more options and access to suitable fares.

The regulatory body has also requested and facilitated Vietnam Airlines to increase its operations to Con Dao, and along with other airlines, to actively seek aircraft that are compatible with the airport’s infrastructure while exploring plans to expand routes to this destination.

Recently, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha instructed the MoT to review the comprehensive investment plan for Con Dao Airport to ensure synchronization, efficiency, and to avoid fragmented investments.

The transport authority is to collaborate with the People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province on the investment plan and report to the Prime Minister by August 20.

Earlier, the Prime Minister approved the overall adjustment to the master plan for the development of Con Dao through 2045. It is projected that the number of tourists will reach 1-1.2 million annually by 2030 and 1.7-2 million annually by 2045.

Given this scale, the MoT believes that by 2030, it is necessary to invest in a new civil aviation area (including a passenger terminal, parking apron, and synchronized technical infrastructure) with a capacity of about 2 million passengers per year, at an estimated investment cost of around VND 2,100 billion.

Restricted Vehicle Access on Bao Loc Pass Until August 30 for Landslide Repairs

According to the Lam Dong Department of Transport, repairs on landslide-affected areas on Bao Loc Pass are expected to take place from August 20 to August 30. During this time, vehicle access through the pass will be limited.

The Lam Dong Department of Transport has announced restrictions on vehicle traffic to address landslide points on Bao Loc Pass, located on National Highway 20, passing through Bao Loc City and Da Huoai District, Lam Dong Province.

For vehicles traveling through Bao Loc Pass, restrictions are scheduled to last from today (August 20) until August 30. The restriction hours will be from 7:00 AM to 11:30 AM and from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM daily . During these times, traffic flow through the area will be regulated accordingly.

Previously, the Road Technical Center 4 under Road Management Zone IV also issued a notice to relevant agencies, units, and localities in Lam Dong Province regarding traffic regulation on Bao Loc Pass during geotechnical survey drilling. The drilling is part of the design work to address 12 landslide points on Bao Loc Pass. Starting from August 20, the construction unit will conduct geotechnical drilling at Km103+145m and Km104+094.

Bao Loc Pass, approximately 10 kilometers long, is part of National Highway 20 and serves as a vital connection between Da Lat–Lam Dong and the southeastern provinces. The pass is prone to landslides during the rainy season; notably, a severe landslide at the end of July 2023 resulted in the deaths of four people.

In March of this year, the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee also issued a document requesting the Vietnam Road Administration to expedite investments and address landslide points on National Highway 20 and Bao Loc Pass to ensure safe travel during this year’s rainy season.

Asian Tourists to Vietnam Experience Strong Growth

In the past seven months, Vietnam has solidified its position as a leading destination in the region, attracting 10 million international tourists, with 76% coming from Asia.

Da Lat Plans to Host Month-Long Flower Festival

According to the People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province, the 2024 Da Lat Flower Festival is scheduled to take place from December 6 to December 31, with the theme “Da Lat Flowers – A Symphony of Colors,” reports Lam Dong Newspaper.

This year marks the 10th Da Lat Flower Festival. In previous years, the festival lasted between 5 and 7 days, but this year it will extend to 25 days. The extension of the festival is seen by the Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee as a way to maximize the event’s impact and stimulate tourism.

The organizers of the 2024 Da Lat Flower Festival chose the theme “Da Lat Flowers – A Symphony of Colors” to highlight the value of Da Lat’s flower industry and recognize the city’s efforts in joining the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in the field of music.

The 2024 Da Lat Flower Festival will introduce several new activities, including an international music program featuring South Korean artists, an international conference on green tourism development and cultural industries based on natural resources, international cultural exchanges, and a rock band festival.

Alongside these new activities, the festival will continue traditional events from previous years, such as the flower space; the Da Lat vegetable and flower market, showcasing the land’s natural gifts; the wine, tea, coffee, and specialty streets; the flower parade, flower fashion shows, and street art performances; OCOP product exhibitions; and an art show in Bao Loc, the city of tea and silk.

In the first seven months of this year, Lam Dong Province welcomed over 6 million visitors, an increase of 12.1% compared to the same period last year. Among them, international visitors accounted for 361,000, an increase of 37.8%. Domestic visitors to Lam Dong were estimated at 5.7 million, up 10.8%.

Which Destinations Are Popular Among Vietnamese Tourists During the 2/9 Holiday?

This year, the National Day holiday in Vietnam will last for four days. Vietnamese tourists have shown a preference for international destinations within the Asia-Pacific region, while many have also booked domestic tours close to the holiday date.

Recently, the booking platform Booking.com released a list of the top 10 domestic and top 10 international destinations most favored by Vietnamese travelers during the 2/9 holiday. The data is based on searches, bookings, and check-ins from August 31 to September 3.

Varun Grover, the Country Director of Booking.com Vietnam, mentioned that the 2/9 holiday provides families with an opportunity to enjoy memorable time together before the new school year begins.

This year’s travel trends reveal that Vietnamese travelers are seeking vacations that offer a mix of experiences, ranging from cultural exploration to relaxation at mountain resorts and sunny beaches.

The statistics indicate that Vietnamese tourists tend to choose experiences that combine both relaxation and discovery.

Da Lat remains the most popular domestic destination, thanks to its beautiful landscapes, cool climate, romantic and peaceful atmosphere, and delicious cuisine. Da Lat has held the top spot as the most visited destination by Vietnamese travelers during the National Day holiday for five consecutive years.

Other destinations in the top 10 include Da Nang, Vung Tau, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An, Hanoi, Sa Pa, and Hue.

Phan Thiet appears in the rankings for the first time, partly due to the newly opened Dau Giay – Phan Thiet expressway, which makes travel more convenient and reduces travel time.

As for international destinations, given the limited four-day holiday, Vietnamese tourists have primarily chosen destinations within the Asia-Pacific region, avoiding longer flights.

Bangkok, Thailand, is the most popular city, followed by Tokyo (Japan), Seoul (South Korea), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Singapore, Hong Kong (China), Taipei (Taiwan, China), Sydney (Australia), Bali (Indonesia), and Chiang Mai (Thailand).

These destinations are known for their vibrant tourism scenes, diverse experiences, rich cuisine, and convenient shopping.

Ms. Thuy Tran, CEO of Vivu Journeys Vietnam, noted that there is significant interest in well-known domestic destinations such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Da Lat. Other popular leisure destinations include Con Dao, Ly Son, Phu Quoc, and Sa Pa.

“Tour costs and holiday packages for the 2/9 holiday may cool down compared to recent major holidays like Tet and April 30, thanks to a slight decrease in airfare. However, this decrease depends on the timing of the booking and the popularity of the destination.

Typically, customers can find better deals if they book early and are flexible with their travel dates. However, if they book during the peak holiday period, airfare will still be quite high,” Ms. Thuy said.

Mr. Bui Thanh Tu, Marketing Director of Best Price Travel Company, informed VietNamNet that about three weeks before the 2/9 holiday, the company’s mid-range to high-end international tours to Japan, South Korea, and China were already fully booked.

These tours typically depart on August 29, 30, or 31 and have a five-day, four-night itinerary. Tour costs during the 2/9 holiday are about 20% higher than usual.

For domestic tours, Mr. Tu noted that travelers tend to book closer to the date. Prices for domestic tours during this holiday have not fluctuated much compared to the same period last year and have cooled down compared to the April 30 – May 1 holiday this year.

Bitcoin Pops Over $61K, XRP Leads Gains Among Majors

Some traders expect market movements nearer to Friday when Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell is scheduled to speak at the Jackson Hole symposium.

Bitcoin (BTC) moved past $61,000 early Tuesday as U.S.-spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) holding the asset recorded their second-highest inflow activity this month.

Bitcoin ETFs recorded over $61 million in net inflows, the highest since $192 million on August 8, data from SoSoValue shows. BlackRock’s IBIT led inflows at $92 million, while Bitwise’s BITB recorded outflows at $25 million.

Japan’s Metaplanet also announced that it had completed another BTC purchase worth $3.4 million (500 million Japanese yen), bringing its total holdings of bitcoin to 360.368 BTC.

Major tokens followed suite, with XRP and BNB Chain’s BNB jumping over 7%, and Solana’s SOL and Cardano’s ADA gaining 4%. Toncoin (TON) declined 0.8% in the past 24 hours. The CoinDesk 20 (CD20), a measure of the performance of the largest and most liquid digital assets, is up 4.25%.

Polymarket bettors are predicting some price stability, with the market giving a 66% chance that BTC will remain above $60K by the end of the week.

Dogecoin (DOGE) jumped 5% amid technology entrepreneur Elon Musk posting an AI-generated image referring to the token on X. DOGE historically tends to move when Musk posts about the token. However, any price spikes are usually short lived.

PoliFi tokens were also flat, as traders seemed to have lost interest in them. The Trump-themed MAGA token is down 0.3%, according to CoinGecko data, with trading value of $2.5 million. Meanwhile, on Polymarket, Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump 50%-49% as the Presidential election betting contract nears $650 million.

While market catalysts remain far and few as of Tuesday, some traders are expecting market movements nearer to Friday when Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell is scheduled to speak at the Jackson Hole symposium.

“This week’s market expectations are built around the Jackson Hole symposium where Monetary Policy is to be discussed,” Abra Prime said in a market note via email. “The narrative focuses on BTC ETFs and their correlation with the stock market.

“We can expect horizontal price action this week before Jackson Hole, with BTC ranging between $56K – $62K with most volume around $58K – $60K,” Abra said.

Powell is expected to confirm a pivot to lower borrowing costs next month, per Bloomberg, a step that has historically buoyed bullish sentiment among traders as cheap access to money spurts growth in riskier sectors. Short-term bearish sentiment remains among some, however, on the decision to pull back on proposed options for BTC ETFs.

“We have seen both NYSE and NASDAQ withdraw their applications to list BTC ETF options over the past 72 hours, adding more headwinds to wider mainstream adoption at least in the short term,” Augustine Fan, head of insights at SOFA.org, said in a Telegram message. “TradFi continues to be cautious with ETF ETH buying on the lack of clarity over staking legalities,” Fan added, referring to ether’s (ETH) underperformance compared to bitcoin in the past week.
