What’s driving the influx of Chinese tourists to Vietnam?

Advertisements

A surge in Chinese visitors to Vietnam has been attributed to intensified tourism marketing, strategic geographical advantages, and affordability, according to industry experts. In May, China outpaced South Korea, accounting for nearly 40% of all international visitors to Vietnam with a total of 357,907 arrivals.

This marked the first occasion since the reopening of Vietnam’s borders in March 2022 that China reclaimed its position as the top source of tourists. “The resurgence of Chinese tourists can be credited to the concerted tourism diplomacy between the two nations,” stated Nguyen Tien Dat, CEO of AZA Travel Company.

To further boost interest from Chinese tourists, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism has stepped up its promotional efforts.

The launch of several new direct flights has facilitated easier travel between the two countries. Notably, Vietjet initiated a direct route connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Xi’an, a historic city in China, on April 29.

Vietnam’s warm beaches are a draw for Chinese tourists, who have limited options like this at home, with Hainan Island being an exception. Consequently, Southeast Asian coastal destinations, including Thailand and Vietnam, are popular for summer getaways.

Industry insiders have observed a trend of reduced travel expenditure among Chinese citizens due to economic pressures, leading to a preference for more economical, proximate vacation spots, with Vietnam emerging as a favored destination.

Vietnam ranked second in Southeast Asia for Chinese tourist arrivals in the first quarter, with 889,000 visitors, trailing only Thailand. However, Dat emphasized the importance of targeting affluent tourists from major Chinese metropolises like Beijing and Shanghai to enhance tourism revenue.

Dat expressed concern that if Chinese tourists visit Vietnam in large numbers but limit their stay to short visits or low-budget meals, it would not substantially benefit the local tourism industry.

“Our aim should be to attract Chinese visitors who are willing to spend several thousand yuan per visit,” he added, noting that 1,000 yuan is approximately equivalent to $138.

Data from the General Statistics Office revealed that in 2019, Chinese tourists spent an average of $885 per visit.

Phan Khanh Toán, CEO at Poplife, a luxury cruise company, suggested that Vietnam should market itself as a premium destination for Chinese tourists, offering upscale shopping and elite dining experiences.

Toan highlighted that Chinese tourists have a penchant for purchasing luxury brands and staying in internationally recognized five-star hotels while in Vietnam.

“The appeal lies in Vietnam’s strategic promotional efforts, its convenient location, and the affordability of travel and accommodations. These factors have collectively contributed to the significant increase in Chinese visitors, positioning Vietnam as a top destination for these travelers.” Toan added.

Which is the best strategies for Vietnam to overcome obstacles and unlock the promise of its tourism industry?

Vietnam, a country with a rich cultural heritage and breathtaking landscapes, has long been a destination for travelers seeking the exotic and the adventurous. However, despite its potential, Vietnam’s tourism industry faces significant hurdles that hinder its growth and appeal.

Travelers like Smokinhops have noted a lack of progress in urban cleanliness and infrastructure. The vibrant streets of Saigon, once a symbol of Vietnam’s dynamic spirit, now suffer from neglect, with garbage littering the paths and sidewalks repurposed as parking spaces. This decline in urban management not only detracts from the city’s charm but also raises concerns about the commitment to maintaining tourist-friendly environments.

The issue of waste management is echoed by dsdavace60, who points out that the omnipresence of rubbish along the roads to Vietnam’s famed attractions is a blight on the natural beauty. The litter problem is not just an aesthetic issue but also a significant deterrent for tourists who expect clean and well-maintained destinations.

Upon arrival, visitors like robinsoncarl88 are greeted with less-than-ideal conditions at HCMC’s Tan Son Nhat airport. Long queues at immigration, understaffed booths, and a lackluster welcome set a disappointing tone for what should be the start of an exciting adventure.

Long-term residents and workers, such as Bruce, express their desire to support local tourism but are disheartened by the subpar quality of vacation spots. Overpriced services, low-quality accommodations, and a lack of value for money drive even the most loyal patrons to seek better experiences abroad.

Chris Roberts highlights the competitive edge that neighboring countries hold over Vietnam. Better visa policies, improved airport facilities, enhanced infrastructure, a wider range of tourist activities, and superior customer service are areas where Vietnam lags behind.

Reimagining Vietnam’s Tourism To reclaim its position as a top tourist destination, Vietnam must address these challenges head-on. Enhancing waste management, streamlining airport operations, and elevating the quality of tourist services are critical steps. Moreover, embracing innovative strategies to diversify tourist experiences and improve customer satisfaction can propel Vietnam’s tourism industry forward1234.

As Vietnam looks to the future, it is clear that the path to tourism success is paved with dedication to improvement and a willingness to learn from its regional counterparts. With concerted efforts, Vietnam can once again shine as a jewel of Southeast Asia, offering unforgettable experiences to travelers from around the world.

Vietnam Continues as the Leading Rice Supplier to the Philippines

Advertisements

From the start of the year until May 23, Vietnam exported 1.44 million tonnes of rice to the Philippines, which constituted 72.9% of the Philippines’ rice import volume, positioning Vietnam as the top rice supplier to this nation, as reported by the Vietnam Trade Office in the Philippines.

In comparison, Thailand was the second-largest exporter with 300,227 tonnes, Pakistan exported 144,834 tonnes, and Myanmar contributed 65,080 tonnes.

Vietnamese rice varieties, particularly DT8 and 5451, have gained favor in the Philippines for their delicate texture, as observed by several industry representatives.

Vietnamese rice currently leads the market in Metro Manila and the southern regions of the Philippines, attributed to its high quality and competitive pricing. This dominance suggests a promising future for Vietnamese rice exporters in the latter half of the year.

According to the Bureau of Plant Industry of the Philippines’ Department of Agriculture, the country’s rice imports saw a 20.3% increase in the first five months, totaling 1.97 million tonnes, which is an increment of 330,000 tonnes compared to the same timeframe last year.

Furthermore, since the year’s onset, the Bureau of Plant Industry has granted 4,066 custom clearance certificates to importing enterprises.

Binh Lieu is in a beautiful ripe rice season.

Vietnam exports a diverse range of rice varieties, with the main ones being:

  • White rice: It’s the most significant in terms of export value, accounting for 45.1% of the total turnover and reaching 2.76 million tons.
  • Jasmine and fragrant rice: These aromatic varieties represent 26.8% of the exports, totaling 1.64 million tons.
  • Broken rice: This type accounts for 13.65% of the exports, with 834.4 thousand tons exported1.
Sticky rice: Known for its glutinous texture, sticky rice makes up 8.9% of the exports, amounting to 547.9 thousand tons.
  • Japonica and Japanese rice varieties: These are specialized varieties that constitute 4.2% of the rice exports.

These varieties cater to different preferences and culinary traditions in the global market, contributing to Vietnam’s reputation as a major rice exporter.

Australia’s First Spot Bitcoin ETF With Direct BTC Holdings to Go Live on Tuesday

Advertisements

Australia already has two exchange-traded products providing exposure to spot crypto assets on Cboe Australia but they do not hold bitcoin directly.

Australia-based Monochrome Asset Management’s Monochrome bitcoin (BTC) exchange-traded fund (ETF) (IBTC) will begin trading on the Cboe Australia exchange on Tuesday, the company told CoinDesk.

The product is the first and only ETF that holds bitcoin directly in Australia, the company said.

“Before IBTC, Australian investors were only able to invest in ETFs that indirectly hold bitcoin or through offshore bitcoin products, both of which don’t benefit from the investor protection rules under the directly held crypto asset Australian Financial Services Licensing (AFSL) licensing regime,” the announcement said.

Australia already has two exchange-traded products providing exposure to spot crypto assets on Cboe Australia but they do not hold bitcoin directly.

The company applied for a spot bitcoin (BTC) ETF in April 2024. Since the U.S. approved spot bitcoin ETFs in January 2024, regions such as Hong Kong and Australia have signaled an openness to the products. By the end of April, Hong Kong had officially approved the first batch of crypto-related spot ETFs, a first for the city as it aimed to become a leading digital assets hub.

In Australia firms require the approval of the regulator, the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC), and then the exchange listing the product, in this case Cboe Australia. Monochrome had already won approval from ASIC for this product.

Cboe Australia did not immediately respond to a CoinDesk request for comment.

“This aligns with Monochrome’s investor protection-driven mission to offer secure, compliant, and straightforward pathways to participate in this transformative space,” Jeff Yew, CEO of Monochrome Asset Management.

MicroStrategy Founder Michael Saylor Agrees to $40M Settlement in D.C. Income Tax Case

The District of Columbia sued Saylor in 2022 for allegedly not paying income taxes while living in the district.

MicroStrategy (MSTR) founder and Executive Chairman Michael Saylor agreed to a $40 million settlement with the District of Columbia in what officials said was the biggest-ever income tax fraud recovery in the district, the attorney general’s office announced on Monday.

The District of Columbia sued Saylor and his company in August 2022, alleging the executive paid no income taxes in the district during the more than 10 years he had lived there. It also said MicroStrategy conspired to help him do so. The attorney general’s office alleged Saylor avoided paying more than $25 million in taxes to the district, saying he had claimed to live elsewhere.

The New York Times first reported the news.

“Florida remains my home today, and I continue to dispute the allegation that I was ever a resident of the District of Columbia,” Saylor told the New York Times. “I have agreed to settle this matter to avoid the continued burdens of the litigation on friends, family, and myself.”

Shares of the Tysons Corner, Virginia-based software developer, rose 3% in pre-market trading.

Why My Instagram Reels Are Not Getting Views

Advertisements

Instagram content creators use Reels to display their creativity and interact with viewers. In fact, so many brands have success stories about Reels. Now, you might be wondering: why are my Instagram Reels not getting views when they seem to be working for others?

Sometimes, your Reels may not get attention, even if much effort and time is put into creating them. This can be disappointing because it’s generally more difficult to grow on the platform and make your presence known when not many people view your posts.

Also, it can feel like nobody is paying attention to your message. That’s why, in this article, we will explore the different reasons for this problem and provide practical tips to enhance the visibility of your Reels.

4 Reasons Not Getting Views on My Instagram Reels

There are several reasons why your Reels aren’t getting views. Some of the most likely possibilities include:

1) Shadowbanned

If your Reel views drop unexpectedly, there’s a chance you are experiencing a shadowban. This mostly happens when Instagram decreases the visibility of your content without notifying you about it. There are several reasons why you can be Shadowbanned. For instance, if you use banned hashtags, engage in spammy behavior, or break the rules set by the community guidelines.

Luckily, you can do a few things to steer clear of it. Avoid using banned hashtags and stop creating posts that resemble each other, as they may be detected as spam. Finally, if you suspect your account might be shadowbanned, look at your activity and try to follow Instagram’s rules as much as possible.

2) Purchased from Shady Websites

Purchasing Instagram views is one of the best ways to boost your growth on Instagram. However, if you buy from shady websites that can damage your account’s credibility and engagement metrics. That’s because views bought from untrustworthy places are frequently not real or made by bots.

This can put your account in danger of being suspended and could harm your reputation. If you want a safer and best option, buy Instagram Reels views from Media Mister. They provide 100% real views from actual accounts and guarantee a high retention rate for you. On top of that, they have secure payment methods and a 30-day money-back guarantee. This will ensure that the Reels you post receive genuine interaction and visibility.

3) Not Relevant to Audience

To keep your interaction high on Instagram Reels, the most important thing you need to do is make content that strongly connects with your viewers. If you don’t, your views could suddenly drop, as people might not find it interesting anymore.

So, always make sure your content is focused on the audience to keep them engaged and visible on the platform. Research who your audience is, what they like, and their pain points. Use polls, comments, and surveys to interact and collect their opinions.

After that, customize your Reels content to what they want and like. Give them something useful or enjoyable that matches their interests.

4) Instagram’s Algorithm Change

The Instagram algorithm plays a crucial role in deciding the visibility of Reels on the platform. It looks at engagement and relevance to decide what content appears in users’ feeds. Changes made recently to the algorithm might have affected these criteria, in turn affecting Reel reach.

Updates to algorithms are often influenced by factors like increased competition or changes in how users interact with content. So, concentrate on making high-quality and interesting Reels. This will help you maintain visibility and engagement even if the algorithm changes.

How to Get More Views on Instagram Reels

Now that you know what could be holding you back, here are a few tips to boost your Instagram Reels views.

1) Know Your Niche

When you focus on a specific topic or area of interest, creating content that specifically appeals to the kind of viewers you desire becomes easier. That also helps you draw in people who are more interested and involved with what you have to share.

To find your niche, consider looking into topics or activities that excite you. Also, analyze your audience to see who makes up the majority of your followers. That will help you tailor your content to a specific group and draw more viewers who are genuinely interested in your content.

2) Start with a Hook and Keep it Short

Reels that gain the most views are the ones that can hook viewers from start to end. So, when creating your content, ensure you can immediately catch viewers’ interest. Use attractive visuals, captions that spark curiosity, or compelling music to draw in the viewer from the very start.

Furthermore, ensure your content is brief and clear, as shorter videos work better on this platform. To make your Reels interesting, begin with a hook and keep them brief. This can assist in keeping viewers engaged and entice them to watch the entire video.

3) Create High-Quality Content

How you present your content greatly affects how much people engage with it on Instagram Reels. Step up your game by improving things like lighting and filming techniques. Keep your camera steady and use high-resolution visuals.

Make use of editing tools to refine your reels. Include transitions, text overlays, and effects to make your content pop visually. Choose captivating audio tracks that complement the theme and mood of your Reels.

By consistently delivering high-quality content, you will attract and retain viewers, increasing the chances of more people sharing and recommending your Reels to a wider audience on Instagram. This will ultimately result in obtaining more views on Instagram Reels.

4) Be Consistent

A regular posting schedule helps maintain the interest of your audience and makes them more likely to return for new content. Utilize scheduling tools that allow you to plan ahead and deliver posts on time.

Also, stick to a specific content style to reinforce your brand identity. If you always offer new Reels at regular intervals, it will help keep your viewers’ interest alive and enhance chances for others to see or share these posts.

5) Promote on Other Social Media

Promoting your Instagram Reels on different social media platforms can help to increase the number of people who see and interact with your content. You can share small parts or teasers of your Reels on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok.

Use this method to capture your audiences on these other sites and direct them to view your Instagram Reels. Ask them to like, comment, and share your Reel. This will open up opportunities to go viral on Instagram, leading to more views and interaction on your posts.

Conclusion

As we’ve seen in this article, there are several things that could be hindering your Instagram Reel success. The best way to solve these problems is by first understanding the underlying issues unique to your account. After that, we recommend trying the tips we’ve shared above and you will see a positive difference in your engagement rate in no time

Controversial “Dating” Cafe with One-Way Mirrors Sparks Investigation in Ho Chi Minh City

Advertisements

One-Way Mirrors and Questionable Practices

According to the post, the cafe is divided into two rooms: a black room for men and a white room for women. The setup supposedly allows the men to see the women through one-way mirrors, while the women believe they are looking into a regular mirror. This raised significant privacy concerns, particularly as the men’s seats are arranged to view the lower part of the women’s bodies.

“The arrangement means that women, acting naturally and unaware of the situation, could inadvertently expose sensitive areas,” the post claimed.

Additionally, the post highlighted that female customers receive free drinks and are not required to pay for the dating packages, unlike their male counterparts who must purchase packages ranging from one hour to three days.

The online community quickly reacted, with many calling for an official investigation to determine whether the cafe’s practices were infringing on women’s rights or potentially acting as a front for illicit activities.

Police Action and Initial Findings

Responding to the public outcry, the Ben Thanh Ward Police, along with other relevant units, inspected the cafe later that day. Upon arrival, they found the cafe empty of customers, with only the legal representative, Ms. H.T.A.D. (born in 2003, residing in District 12), a foreign national, and three employees present.

Located on the 7th floor of a building on Nguyen Trai Street, the cafe had advertisements in the elevator area. The inspection revealed that female customers receive complimentary drinks, while male customers must purchase service packages ranging from one hour to three days. The most expensive package costs 1 million VND and includes unlimited chats and mandatory drink purchases costing between 80,000 to 100,000 VND.

The women’s room uses a one-way mirror (Photo: Le Trai).

The inspection confirmed that the cafe is divided into two main rooms: one for men and one for women. The women’s room features high chairs and one-way mirrors, preventing them from seeing the men. In contrast, the men’s room has low chairs, allowing them to view the women through the mirrors.

Men interested in dating leave a sheet with their personal details, and the women can choose whom they want to “pair with.” If both parties agree, they can move to a private room for a chat.

In the men’s room, they can see everything in the women’s room (Photo: Le Trai).

Next Actions on the Case

Following the inspection, authorities documented their findings and invited the relevant individuals to the headquarters for further investigation. The outcome of this investigation will determine whether any laws were violated and what actions, if any, will be taken against the cafe.

This incident highlights the ongoing concerns about privacy and exploitation in the digital age, prompting discussions about the ethical implications of such business models.

Ho Chi Minh City among Asia’s top cities for retaining tourists

Advertisements

Ho Chi Minh City is one of the top 8 destinations in Asia where tourists stay the longest, according to statistics from the travel platform Agoda.

In the latest report from the global network travel platform, which features 4.2 million hotels and resorts worldwide, the slow travel list in Asia highlights eight standout markets: Khao Lak (Thailand); Seoul (South Korea); Perhentian (Malaysia); Tokyo (Japan); Siargao (Philippines); Pekanbaru (Indonesia); Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam); and Ahmedabad (India).

In the first five months of 2024, international visitors to Ho Chi Minh City were estimated at over 2.2 million, an increase of more than 32% compared to the same period in 2023. Domestic visitors reached nearly 14 million, up 1.6% from the same period last year. Total tourism revenue exceeded 76 trillion VND, an increase of nearly 14% compared to the same period last year.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, the city’s tourism sector has heavily invested in the nighttime economy, identifying it as a strategic solution to boost the entire sector. Nighttime entertainment, dining, and services are among the three key tourism product groups being focused on, contributing to a significant increase in tourist spending at night, accounting for 70% of total spending when visiting the “City that never sleeps.” The department also believes that the nighttime economy will contribute to economic development, create jobs and income for workers, and maximize local resources to attract tourists, creating new momentum for social development.

Additionally, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism has launched a tourism stimulus program for 2024, highlighted by the second Ho Chi Minh City Water Festival in 2024.

The second Ho Chi Minh City Water Festival in 2024 will take place at various locations: Nha Rong Wharf – Saigon Port, Bach Dang Wharf Park, Saigon River Park, the Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe Canal area, Sao Viet Wharf (District 7) , Binh Dong Wharf (District 8), Suoi Tien Cultural Tourism Area, and other tourist destinations in Thu Duc City and various districts of Ho Chi Minh City. The festival will feature 22 cultural, entertainment, artistic, culinary, and sports activities along the river, combined with experiential activities, shopping promotions, and other stimulus programs throughout the city.

Parades on the river, a recreated floating market from the Mekong Delta, a Fruit Week on boats, cultural and artistic spaces, folk games, a river culinary competition, themed miniatures, and tours have all been prepared, promising to bring a diverse and vibrant festival season for residents and visitors.

To date, over 100 businesses have announced and applied discount policies and promotional programs for shopping, dining, sightseeing, and tours for residents and visitors. Notably, 15 famous brands are offering electronic vouchers with up to a 50% discount with no quantity limit for airlines, applicable to passengers flying to Ho Chi Minh City during the Water Festival event. The stimulus programs offering discounted tickets for artistic performances during the second Water Festival in 2024 have also been announced and informed to the public and visitors.

Hanoi will develop unique and attractive tourism products based on its existing advantages and research the development of new product types linked to the strengths of each locality, such as exploiting inland waterway tourism routes along the Red River, West Lake, and Dong Mo Lake, or developing agricultural tourism, experiential tourism, and sports tourism products.

The Australia Escape Times recently listed 7 abandoned places around the world that always excite travelers to explore, including a destination in Vietnam that has been abandoned for many years but still attracts crowds.

Once dubbed the largest abandoned water park in the world, the Thuy Tien Water Park in Hue is currently not open to the public.

Opened in 2004 before it was fully completed, the park closed less than 2 years later.

The abandoned attractions inside include the damaged remains of an aquarium, water slides, and an amphitheater that was used for dolphin shows in the style of Sea World.

A concrete dragon, which once served as an aquarium, continues to “guard” the lake. Today, Thuy Tien Lake Park is an unofficial tourist attraction; the dragon structure in the middle of the lake is decaying and rusting, and the water slides are severely damaged. The entire site looks more like ancient ruins than a 21st-century attraction.

Previously, Thuy Tien Lake in Hue was also selected by CNN as one of the top 10 most fascinating abandoned amusement parks due to its mysterious and eerie beauty.

The Japanese daily, Nikkei Asia, reported that Vietnam has been listed among the top destinations for Asian tourists seeking to escape the heat.

The website wrote: As global temperatures rise due to factors such as climate change leading to global warming, many Asian tourists are beginning to seek out beaches or tropical islands for relaxation. Recently, destinations with cooler climates, ranging from Scandinavia to the mountainous regions of Vietnam, have become popular choices for many tourists.

Nikkei Asia shared that many Asian tourists are focusing on interesting inland destinations such as Sa Pa in Northern Vietnam, a top trekking destination known for its lush natural surroundings and impressive local culture.

Data from Google Trends shows that the global search term “cool vacation spots” increased by 100% in the 12 months leading up to May 8th. According to Booking.com, 2024 will be a year where many people tend to travel to cooler climates.

Instead of heading to the beaches of Thailand or Bali, many travelers are now choosing destinations such as Alaska, Norway, and Canada. These places offer Asian tourists unique experiences, including opportunities to try activities “rarely found in tropical countries” such as skiing and whale watching.
