A rare red tide phenomenon has been observed at Mun Beach in Tho Chau island commune, Phu Quoc City, causing seawater to change from blue to red and spreading over more than 1,000 square meters.
Do Van Dung, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tho Chau commune, confirmed this unprecedented event, noting that it is the first such occurrence in the past 30 years since the re-establishment of the commune in 1993.
Residents reported that the phenomenon began around 10 a.m. on June 12, starting in an area of about 200-300 square meters before expanding. Experts believe this is likely a red tide, also known as an algal bloom, which depletes oxygen in the water and can lead to fish deaths.
Shortly after the seawater turned red, several small fish were found dead and washed ashore.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and crypto could add a combined $20 trillion to the global economy by 2030, asset manager Bitwise said in a report on Wednesday.
“The intersection of AI and crypto is going to be even bigger than people imagine,” senior crypto research analyst Juan Leon wrote, adding that the “two industries could add a collective $20 trillion to global gross domestic product (GDP) by 2030.”
“The race for AI supremacy is creating an unprecedented shortage of data centers, AI chips, and access to electricity,” Leon said, noting that the four largest cloud companies are predicted to spend about $200 billion on data center build-outs in 2025, mainly to service growing demand from AI companies.
Bitcoin (BTC) miners have all the resources that AI firms need, including powerful chips, hi-tech cooling systems and accompanying infrastructure, the report said, and CoreWeave’s takeover offer last week for miner Core Scientific (CORZ) is evidence of this demand. Core Scientific also announced the largest miner/AI partnership to date, with a $3.5 billion deal to host CoreWeaves’s AI related services. Bitwise notes that Hut 8 (HUT), Iris Energy (IREN) and other miners have also announced AI-hosting initiatives this year.
Crypto and AI have the potential to intersect in other areas other than just bitcoin mining and these include information validation and virtual assistants, the report added.
Softer inflation data could prove a boon to recently under pressure digital asset prices.
The U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) was flat in May, beating economist forecasts for a 0.1% rise and down from 0.3% in April.
On a year-over-year basis, CPI was up 3.3%, compared to analyst forecasts and the previous month’s reading at 3.4%.
The core CPI, which excludes food and energy costs, rose 0.2% in May, better than forecasts for a 0.3% rise and versus 0.3% in April.. Year-over-year, core CPI rose 3.4% against expectations for 3.5% and April’s 3.6%.

Accordingly, the “Exploring the Nature of Cha Rao – Cha Cung, Truong Son Commune” tourism product will continue to be temporarily exploited for 12 months from the date the Provincial People’s Committee issues the approval document.
Specifically, the Quang Ninh District Forest Protection Management Board and the exploitation unit will arrange reasonable tour itineraries based on weather conditions, ensure tourist safety, avoid overlapping tour groups, and provide the best experience for visitors.
Tourists aged 6 and above are allowed to participate. For tourists aged 6 to 15, when engaging in activities at the campsite, they must be accompanied by a guardian aged 18 or older or be part of groups or organizations with legal status that organize the activities and provide supervision by someone aged 18 or older.
The number of participants in the one-day experience program should not exceed 20 per group, with a maximum of 140 participants per day, at a ticket price of 75,000 VND per person per turn. For the two-day, one-night tour program, the limit is 20 participants per group and no more than 60 participants per day, at a ticket price of 150,000 VND per person per turn. Residents of the villages surrounding the exploitation area are exempt from the entrance fee.

In the short term, achieving the tourism sector’s 2024 targets (17-18 million international tourists, 110 million domestic tourists; total revenue from tourism reaching approximately 840 trillion VND) becomes highly challenging in the context of Vietnam continuing to face unfavorable factors within the broader difficulties of global tourism. Meanwhile, air travel accounts for a very high proportion of tourists coming to Vietnam, up to nearly 80%.
In this context, on the afternoon of June 12 in Hanoi, the Nhan Dan Newspaper held a seminar titled “Aviation – Tourism Cooperation for Sustainable Development,” aimed at analyzing the current development status of the aviation and tourism sectors, discussing to establish practical, effective cooperation initiatives, and recommending new solutions to the government. In reality, there is always fierce competition among businesses in the aviation and tourism sectors, with many aviation-tourism development links being broken due to conflicts of interest within one party or the emergence of a third party. Economic experts assert that before finding solutions to strengthen the linkages and cooperation between these two sectors, it is essential to establish control mechanisms within the industry itself. This requires the role of specialized state management agencies such as the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, along with related social-professional organizations.

Airlines and Local Authorities Strengthen Cooperation
To move towards practical actions rather than just discussions, within the framework of the seminar, airlines and local authorities have developed solutions to strengthen linkages, attract tourists, and stimulate domestic tourism demand. Notably, Vietnam Airlines will offer nearly 1 million night flight seats, departing between 9 PM and 6 AM daily on various domestic routes, with very attractive promotional prices.
Vietnam Airlines has built a cooperation mechanism with local tourism industries to create products targeting domestic tourists during this summer’s peak. Accordingly, the airline has proposed to provinces and cities to call upon and introduce local travel-tourism companies, accommodation establishments, recreational facilities, tourist attractions, etc., to participate in the night flight promotion campaign. At the same time, they will announce the list of service providers through media channels to allow customers to recognize and proactively book services.
Da Nang City and Khanh Hoa Province are the first two localities to accompany Vietnam Airlines in this campaign. According to the agreement, from now until the end of the year, Vietnam Airlines and these localities will cooperate to launch a tourism stimulus program, with the airline deploying additional early morning and late-night flight products with fare reductions of up to 30% compared to normal flight times.
Estimated during the 2024 Tourism Week “The Golden Season of Tam Coc – Trang An,” taking place from June 1-8, Ninh Binh welcomed nearly 300,000 visitors, including 61,000 international tourists.
The total number of visitors to Ninh Binh during this period was 285,000 (an increase of nearly 66%), with international tourists accounting for 61,000 (a twofold increase) compared to 2023. According to the Department of Tourism’s report, hotel occupancy rates throughout the province reached 70-75% during this year’s Tourism Week, while the Tam Coc area saw an average occupancy rate of 85-90%, reaching 100% on the opening night of June 1, 2024. Additionally, other areas outside Tam Coc, such as the Hoa Lu Ancient Town, Bai Dinh Pagoda, Trang An, Mua Cave, Thung Nham, also experienced a high volume of visitors.
Notably, around 25,000 visitors attended the Opening Ceremony of Tourism Week in the Tam Coc area. Thanks to thorough preparations for traffic management, safety, and security in the area of the Opening Ceremony, the boat dock, and the main roads leading to the Tam Cốc area, the organization, reception of delegates, security, and environmental sanitation were well maintained, with no accidents or traffic congestion during the Opening Ceremony.

TikTok organizes TikTok Safety Summit 2024 for the first time to promote comprehensive solutions, committed to promoting a safe digital environment.
On June 11 in Ho Chi Minh City, TikTok hosted the inaugural TikTok Safety Summit 2024, aiming to develop a safe and trustworthy digital environment for creative activities on the platform.
The event comprehensively introduced and updated policies, solutions, features, and safety tools to enhance the ability to create and manage positive content for specific community groups on the platform.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh, representative of TikTok Vietnam, stated: “User and community safety is always TikTok’s top priority. We will continue to regularly listen to user feedback, organize campaigns to spread positive content on the platform, and strengthen cooperation with partners, organizations, and government agencies to promote awareness and safety practices in the digital space.”
Comprehensive Update to Community Standards
In the updated Community Standards released on May 17, 2024, TikTok announced enhancements to user control over handling violations and detailed guidelines on moderating features such as Search, TikTok LIVE, and the “For You” page.
Specifically, any content, whether public or private, found violating TikTok’s rules will be removed from the platform.
TikTok will restrict age-inappropriate content for minors. The TikTok moderation team will work closely to ensure that young users access appropriate content. Content appearing on the “For You” page must prioritize user safety and reflect community diversity and cultural standards.
TikTok also provides users with tools to manage their personal experience and publishes these resources on the Safety Center. Notable features include disabling messages, message controls, content controls, comment controls, comment filters, and reporting tools.
TikTok’s content moderation strategies are based on common principles aimed at ensuring fairness on the platform, protecting human dignity, and balancing freedom of speech with the prevention of harmful behavior.
The development of entertainment content must be accompanied by efforts to foster meaningful and positive interactions. TikTok introduced a set of solutions to help content creators operate effectively on the platform and connect with users confidently.
TikTok will also implement a warning system for first-time violations, issuing alerts to creators regarding their initial breaches of the Community Standards.
With the Account Check feature, TikTok will assist creators in quickly reviewing the status of their account and their last 30 posts.
TikTok also introduced a Code of Conduct for content creators, which sets enhanced standards alongside the Community Standards, targeting the specific activities of content creators.
This decision aims to improve access for the Vietnamese community, ensuring all city government communications are available in Vietnamese. Since 2001, San Francisco has mandated translations for languages spoken by at least 10,000 residents. The new regulation lowers this threshold to 6,000, adding Vietnamese to the existing Chinese, Spanish, and Filipino list.
Official statistics show that 6,791 San Francisco residents primarily speak Vietnamese. Consequently, the city will now offer translation services via phone, website, and official notices in Vietnamese.
The ordinance, introduced by Councilman Shamann Walton last year, seeks to enhance language access for immigrant communities. “San Francisco is home to diverse immigrant communities and is a national leader in providing language access services,” Walton stated at a press conference before the vote.
Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank (HOSE: MSB) Announces Capital Increase Plan and Dividend Distribution
Vietnam Maritime Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MSB), stock code: MSB, has announced its capital increase plan and dividend distribution for the year 2024, following the decision approved by the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders.
MSB plans to issue a maximum of 600 million additional shares, corresponding to a 30% issuance rate (existing shareholders owning 100 shares will receive 30 new shares). This issuance will increase the bank’s charter capital from VND 20,000 billion to VND 26,000 billion, with a total capital increase of VND 6,000 billion. The expected implementation time is in the year 2024, after receiving approval from the competent state regulatory authorities.
The source of capital used for the charter capital increase comes from the undistributed after-tax profits of 2023 and previous years, after fully setting aside the required funds according to regulations. The undistributed after-tax profit as of the end of 2023 is nearly VND 8,000 billion, according to the consolidated financial statements.
The MSB management board states that the capital increase aims to consolidate the bank’s competitive position, strengthen the capital buffer, and improve financial safety indicators. Additionally, it supports medium and long-term credit capital sources, improves infrastructure, and invests in the bank’s information technology system.
In addition to the capital increase, the MSB Shareholders’ Meeting also approved the policy of distributing dividends in cash and/or shares at a maximum rate of 15% from the profits generated in 2024 and the retained earnings after completing the capital increase. The timing of the dividend advance will depend on market conditions and MSB’s business performance.
An MSB representative shared that if approved by shareholders and if business results meet expectations, the bank plans to implement a cash dividend advance in the fourth quarter of this year. “We have had this plan for a while and are awaiting approval from the General Meeting of Shareholders with a maximum advance rate of 15%,” added the bank representative.

Layer-2 network Polygon is starting a Community Grants Program to encourage builders to build in its ecosystem, Polygon Labs said on Tuesday. The program aims to place 1 billion POL, Polygon’s soon-to-rebrand MATIC token, into the hands of developers over the next 10 years.
The program went live Tuesday with 35 million tokens, worth $23 million at current prices, eligible for distribution. The network is in the process of transitioning its current token, MATIC, to the new POL ticker, so this first tranche of tokens will be denominated in MATIC.
The program will tap into funds made available by Polygon’s Community Treasury, and the team shared that roughly 100 million POL tokens will be given out each year.
Those looking to participate in the program can opt into two tracks. The first is what the team calls a “General Grant Track,” which is for builders looking to build anything on Polygon. The second is the “Consumer Crypto Track,” which focuses on projects that drive crypto adoption, including gaming, decentralized social applications, AI and blockchain integrations, and NFT innovations.
“The grant program follows proposals to ensure that Polygon becomes a strong, community-governed aggregated network of chains,” Polygon wrote in a blog post.
The first charter train (a dedicated train serving tourists) carrying 300 passengers has just arrived in Quang Binh, adding a new and exciting travel experience and providing an additional transportation option.

This is a fully chartered train service organized by the Hanoi UNESCO Club in response to the “Vietnamese People Travel in Vietnam” program initiated by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in 2020.
After its launch and initial implementation, the charter train achieved certain successes, operating seven trips in 2020 before being interrupted by the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

“With the resumption of the charter train service, this will be a new tourism product added to the options available to visitors to Quang Binh, contributing to the promotion and development of the province’s tourism industry,” Ms. Ha said.
Following the train’s arrival at Dong Hoi Station June 9, the Hanoi UNESCO Club plans to operate two more charter trains, scheduled to depart on June 22 and July 13, respectively.

Notably, the total number of international visitors in the first five months of this year increased by 3.9% compared to the pre-pandemic period, indicating a positive recovery for Vietnam’s tourism.
Total revenue from tourists in the first five months is estimated to reach VND 352,200 billion. In 2024, Vietnam’s tourism industry aims to welcome 17-18 million international visitors, serve 110 million domestic tourists, and achieve total tourism revenue of approximately VND 840,000 billion.
