BTC dominance is creeping upwards as Layer-1s and Artificial Intelligence tokens had a rough week, while Google search interest in the halving skyrockets.
Bitcoin (BTC) has become more dominant in the crypto market thanks to impending halving and broader market risk aversion, despite the price correction
The largest cryptocurrency by market value was trading below $61,400 during Asian trading hours on Thursday, according to CoinDesk Indices data, as the sell-off in risk assets, fueled by difficult macroeconomic conditions, rages.
The CoinDesk 20, a measure of the world’s most liquid digital assets, is down 3.3%, trading at 2,125.
While bitcoin might be having a challenging moment, layer-1s and altcoins are doing worse. Top layer-1 tokens like Solana’s (SOL) are down over 20% in the past week. Avalanche’s (AVAX) is down 26%, Cardano’s (ADA) is down 23%, and Filecoin (FIL) is down 30%.
The bloodbath in Artificial Intelligence tokens, once the darling of the market, continued with some of the largest AI tokens down double digits during the last week. Render’s RNDR is down 13%, and Fetch.AI’s FET token is down 24%.
All this has led to bitcoin dominance moving up. Bitcoin dominance helps traders gauge the market mood and the token’s influence on altcoin trends. Bitcoin dominance is currently at 55.19%, up around 1.35% in the last week or 2.5% in the last month.
Meanwhile, in the run-up to the halving, Google search interest in the halving is hitting all-time highs, far surpassing search interest in the 2020 halving.
According to Google search trends data, there has been more search interest in the halving than in Ethereum, solana, or dogecoin.

A representative from Vietnam Airlines stated that they have been actively monitoring and redirecting flights between Vietnam and Europe to steer clear of potentially affected areas ahead of the escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Consequently, regular flight routes to Europe from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, to Paris (France), Frankfurt (Germany), and London (UK) will be adjusted to avoid areas of impact. This flight path adjustment will result in approximately 15 minutes of additional flight time between Vietnam and Europe, along with additional operating costs for the airline.
However, to ensure the number one priority of safety for passengers and crew, Vietnam Airlines will maintain these adjusted flight paths until the situation of tension is resolved.

Senators Cynthia Lummis and Kirsten Gillibrand unveiled a new bill Wednesday, hoping to move the needle on stablecoin legislation.
U.S. Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) are taking another swing at crypto-specific legislation, with a narrowly tailored bill seeking to define how stablecoins – cryptocurrencies that maintain value with some other asset or currency – will operate in the U.S.
The lawmakers unveiled a new stablecoin bill Wednesday in the latest effort to create legislation directly addressing this corner of the crypto market. Under their proposed bill, payment stablecoin issuers would have reserve and operational requirements, including needing to create subsidiaries specifically to issue stablecoins. The bill would also require stablecoin issuers to deal in dollar-backed tokens.
A payment stablecoin, as defined by the bill, would be any dollar-pegged digital asset “that is, or is designed to be, used as a means of payment or settlement.” Issuers would be “obligated” to convert to dollars, and the asset itself won’t be a security. Issuers would either have to be non-depository trust companies registered with the Federal Reserve Board of Governors or a depository institution “authorized as a national payment stablecoin issuer.” Both state and federal regulators would have roles overseeing these entities.
Stablecoin issuers would also be required to ensure their tokens are fully backed by reserve assets and disclose to the public what those assets are. They would also need to tap a non-depository trust as a custodian, and the trust will be required to use a depository institution as a sub-custodian, according to the bill.
The bill also appears to ban algorithmic stablecoins, which are typically undercollateralized tokens designed to maintain their value through algorithmic mechanisms.
In a statement, Gillibrand said a regulatory framework for stablecoins “is absolutely critical to maintaining the U.S. dollar’s dominance,” and the proposed bill would keep the existing dual banking system intact.
“It protects consumers by mandating one-to-one reserves, prohibiting algorithmic stablecoins, and requiring stablecoin issuers to comply with U.S. anti-money laundering and sanctions rules,” she said. “To draft the strongest bill possible, our offices worked closely with the relevant federal and state agencies and I’m confident this legislation can earn the necessary support in the Senate and the House.”
Her counterpart, Lummis, said the bill also meets “the growing demand for our ever-evolving financial industry” in a statement, echoing Gillibrand’s point on the dual banking system and the dollar’s dominance.
The bill created a $10 billion limit for non-depository trust institutions to be able to issue payment stablecoins. Once the issuer exceeds that amount, it must be “a depository institution that has been authorized as a national payment stablecoin issuer,” the bill’s text said. At present, the largest U.S.-based stablecoin issuer, Circle (with $33 billion in outstanding (USDC)), is not a depository trust institution. The next largest, Paxos, does have a limited purpose trust charter through the New York Department of Financial Services, though its market cap falls well below that $10 billion cutoff. A Senate staffer described the $10 billion limit as the approximate cutoff between a small community bank and a larger regional financial institution with systemic risk potential.
Lummis and Gillibrand have jointly introduced a number of bills addressing the digital assets market, including a bill last summer that would create legal definitions for decentralized finance and draw lines for where federal agencies like the Commodity Futures Trading Commission have jurisdiction over crypto. While these bills have not gone anywhere, a Senate staffer told reporters on Tuesday that the lawmakers had sought feedback from federal regulators and the White House.
Stablecoin legislation has long been seen as the type of crypto-specific legislation most likely to become law in the U.S., though progress has been slow. House Financial Services Chair Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) and Ranking Member Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) have worked on stablecoin legislation for years. A bill advanced out of committee last year, but progress stopped after then-Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy was ousted.
Last week, Punchbowl News reported that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) met with McHenry and Waters to discuss potentially attaching stablecoin legislation to a bill reauthorizing the Federal Aviation Administration, seen as a must-pass piece of legislation. On Tuesday, Sen. Sherrod Brown, who chairs the Senate Banking Committee, signaled stablecoin legislation could advance if it included certain specific safeguards.
Bitcoin’s fourth mining reward halving is just two days away.
Bitcoin’s fourth mining-reward halving is just two days away. The quadrennial event will reduce BTC’s per block emission to 3.125 BTC from 6.25 BTC, halving the pace of new supply. Previous halvings preceded massive multimonth rallies in BTC, and the crypto community is confident that history will repeat itself.
Investment banking giant Goldman Sachs, however, cautioned its clients from reading too much into the past halving cycles.
“Historically, the previous three halvings have been accompanied by BTC price appreciation after the halving, although the time it took to reach the all-time highs differs significantly. Caution should be taken against extrapolating the past cycles and the impact of halving, given the respective prevailing macro conditions,” Goldman’s Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities (FICC) and Equities team said in a note to clients on April 12.
The chart shows bitcoin’s performance after previous halvings on Nov. 28, 2012, July 9, 2016, and May 11, 2020.
Though bulls were in the driver’s seat following each of the three halvings, the magnitude and the time taken to reach the eventual peak differed.
More importantly, the macroeconomic environment on those occasions differed from today’s high inflation, high-interest rate climate. Back then, M2 money supply of major central banks – U.S. Federal Reserve, European Central Bank, Bank of Japan and People’s Bank of China – grew rapidly, as CoinDesk reported last year. Interest rates were stuck at or below zero in the advanced world, which catalyzed risk-taking across the financial market, including cryptocurrencies.
In other words, for history to repeat itself, macro conditions need to be supportive of risk-taking.
That’s not the case today: Interest rates in the U.S., the world’s largest economy, stand above 5% and markets have recently priced out hopes of cuts this year in the light of sticky inflation and a resilient economy.
The bitcoin price has rallied 50% this year, reaching record highs well ahead of the halving, thanks to inflows into the U.S.-based spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and has risen over 130% in six months. According to Bloomberg, the 11 spot-based ETFs, which went live three months ago, have amassed $59.2 billion in assets under management, creating a demand-supply imbalance.
As such, some analysts believe the major portion of the usual post-halving surge has been brought forward, leaving the door open for a sell-the-fact pullback after the April 20 halving.
According to Goldman, BTC’s halving is a “psychological reminder to investors of BTC’s capped supply,” and the medium-term outlook depends on the uptake of the ETFs.
“Whether BTC halving will next week turn out to be a “buy the rumour, sell the news event” is arguably less impactful on BTC’s medium term outlook, as BTC price performance will likely continue to be driven by the said supply-demand dynamic and continued demand for BTC ETFs, which combined with the self-reflexive nature of crypto markets is the primary determinant for spot price action,” the team wrote.
6 Ways To Become An Upstander And Stand Up Against Bullying
Bullying is a widespread problem that causes great suffering to victims and feeds vicious cycles of aggressiveness in schools, workplaces, and online groups.
Creating a culture of upstanders—those who proactively step in to support and defend those being bullied—is just as crucial to preventing bullying as focusing on teaching people not to engage in such conduct.
Making the decision to become an upstander gives people the ability to change the world and make places safer and more welcoming. Here are six concrete steps you can take to stop bullying and become an upstander.
1. Speak Up and Take Action Against Bullying
The first step to becoming an upstanderagainst bullying is to voice out and take action, which are the primary steps to overcome bullying. Witnessing bullying calls for finding one’s voice and courageously intervening.
This could be done by telling the bully to stop, assisting the victim, or even seeking help from a parent or person in authority. Upstanders stand up against bullying by acting and showing that bullying should be fought against.
Thus, they become role models for everyone who has been bullied.
Encouraging people to speak out against injustice and acting not only helps put an end to bullying right away but also cultivates a culture of accountability and empowerment.
2. Cultivate Empathy and Awareness about Bullying
Developing empathy and awareness is the first step towards being an active bystander and stopping bullying. Empathy equips people to view the emotions and experiences of both the oppressed and the oppressor from an angle where they feel the connection and compassion.
Through educational programs and discussions that inform people about the gravity and rate of bullying, people have more of a chance for empowerment and drive.
Upstanders who learn to develop empathy through recognition of the indicators of bullying, feeling with those affected, and intervening satisfactorily to achieve a bully-free and supportive environment for everyone.
3. Practice Assertive Communication
Understanding the skill of assertive communication will significantly help in dealing with such situations without much escalation. Upstanders can authoritatively protest against bullying and all the same respect the involved parties.
Through the use of unambiguous and direct phrasing such as “No, that’s not allowed,” “Stop that now,” and “I am here to help you,” these individuals can set their boundaries and make the bullying known.
Assertive communication equips standers-bys with the courage to deal with rudeness so they do not use violence or aggression.
It generates positive discussions, defuses tension, and promotes mutual understanding, which finally makes the school a safe and respectful environment for all students.
4. Foster Inclusive Communities
Promoting integrated communities is one of the most critical factors in preventing bullying and encouraging civility.
By developing contexts that celebrate diversity and incorporate everyone’s different identities, those people feel less tempted to bully others and instead might opt to intervene when witnessing other people’s ill-doings.
The characteristic feature of an inclusive community is to focus on matters of acceptance, respect, and understanding, resulting in an environment where it becomes more accessible for people to be their authentic selves. Educational institutions, workplaces, and digital platforms must develop inclusive policies and initiatives that leave discrimination behind.
By promoting a culture where everyone feels respected and welcomed, individuals can eradicate bullying and reduce the rate of injustice worldwide.
5. Lead by Example Against Bullying
The most outstanding example is shown when leaders don’t only talk the talk but walk the walk to become upstanders against bullying. When people show compassion, understanding, and honest experience through their words and relationships, it sets a positive trend for others.
Every act of honorable conduct fosters the principles of empathy and respect, whether it’s supporting a student who is being bullied, calling out discriminatory behavior, or encouraging inclusiveness in social situations.
Through repetitive displays of good examples, the leader induces others to replicate, ultimately leading to the development of a social culture based on empathy and togetherness.
The best way to empower individuals is to stand as an example for community members, which will cause a solid stream of positive change across their communities.
6. Support Victims and Offer Resources
The role of an upstander lies not only in preventing bullying but also in supporting victims. Downstanders may help create a safe environment, reinforce the sense of confidence, and offer practical aid to those undergoing bullying.
This observation may be in the form of proactively listening to their experiences, giving them words of motivation, or aiding them to get the appropriate resources such as counseling services and support groups.
Establishing a support system of both family and friends around the victim is very valuable, as it is a strong signal of togetherness, and in the face of adversity, this kind of confidence is boosted.
With that, focus on education about existing resources to report bullying with an aim to help individuals seek help themselves and initiate proactive actions to stop bullying in their communities.
Bottomline
Taking on the status of an upstander is a vital way of fighting bullies and establishing a culture of empathy, respect, and inclusiveness.
Individuals can make a positive change in schools, workplaces, and even the community by being empathetic, raising their voices, etc.
As a collective, we can join forces to combat bullying and construct a society where anyone is able to practice their rights without fear and intimidation.
Robusta coffee prices have shattered records, exceeding 4,000 USD/ton. The London exchange witnessed unprecedented levels, with coffee futures for May delivery soaring by 31 USD to reach 4,005 USD/ton—a historic pinnacle. Futures for subsequent months, including July, September, and November, also saw substantial increases ranging from 25 to 28 USD/ton.
Simultaneously, Arabica coffee prices on the New York Stock Exchange experienced a steep ascent, climbing by 114.4 USD to reach 5,220 USD/ton—the highest level seen in the past 18 months, dating back to October 2022. Prices for other terms also surged, with gains ranging from 34 to 38.5 USD/ton.
Brazilian Arabica coffee futures for May delivery followed suit, leaping by 151.8 USD to hit 6,260 USD/ton.
In Vietnam’s Central Highlands, coffee prices continue their upward trajectory, with increases ranging from 1,500 to 1,700 VND/kg. Specifically, prices in Dak Nong stand at 115,500 VND/kg, Dak Lak at 115,400 VND/kg, Gia Lai at 115,300 VND/kg, and Lam Dong at 115,000 VND/kg. With this ongoing surge, Vietnamese coffee prices are expected to reach an unprecedented milestone by the week’s end.
The persistent upward trend in Arabica coffee prices, both in New York and Brazilian markets, reflects a global shortage across all sources. Notably, large businesses in Vietnam have recently announced imminent shortages, even considering the need for coffee imports in the coming months. This revelation has further fueled price hikes in countries like Brazil and Indonesia, where harvests are imminent.

The Growth of Casino Tourism Industry
In recent years, Vietnam’s casino tourism industry has seen remarkable growth, buoyed by the nation’s flourishing economy and the rising discretionary spending of tourists, both local and international. The emergence of top-tier casino resorts in bustling cities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and the picturesque island of Phu Quoc has solidified Vietnam’s status as a sought-after destination for travelers in search of a perfect blend of leisure and adventure.
Moreover, this surge in casino tourism not only brings economic benefits to Vietnam but also contributes to the development of its hospitality sector and infrastructure. With a diverse array of entertainment options, stunning natural beauty, and rich cultural heritage, Vietnam remains poised to attract a growing number of tourists seeking unforgettable experiences in the realm of casino tourism.
Economic Impact on Local Economies
The economic impact of casino tourism on local communities in Vietnam cannot be overstated. The influx of visitors has brought about significant changes, revitalizing regions that were once overlooked. The construction and operation of casino resorts have not only created numerous employment opportunities but have also sparked growth and development in previously underserved areas.
Before we delve into the specific economic impacts, let’s explore five key aspects of this phenomenon:
Increased job opportunities in various sectors, including hospitality, entertainment, and service industries.
Enhanced infrastructure development to accommodate the growing influx of tourists and improve local amenities.
Diversification of the local economy, reducing dependency on traditional industries and fostering resilience.
Strengthened small businesses through increased patronage from tourists and expanded market opportunities.
Heightened investment in community development projects, such as education, healthcare, and cultural preservation.
The economic ripple effects of casino tourism extend far beyond the gaming tables. With increased spending on accommodations, dining, entertainment, and local attractions, residents and businesses alike have reaped the benefits. Moreover, the injection of capital into these communities has facilitated improvements in infrastructure and public services, enhancing the overall quality of life for residents. As Vietnam’s casino tourism continues to flourish, its positive impact on local economies remains a testament to the transformative power of strategic tourism development.
Cultural Implications and Challenges
The surge of casino tourism in Vietnam has brought forth both economic prosperity and cultural challenges to the nation. While the economic benefits are evident, concerns about the preservation of Vietnam’s rich cultural heritage have arisen alongside its rapid growth. Some worry that the proliferation of casinos and the influx of foreign visitors may result in the commercialization and exploitation of traditional Vietnamese culture, potentially diluting its authenticity and uniqueness. Additionally, the rise of gambling addiction and the social issues associated with casino tourism present significant hurdles for local communities and policymakers.
Before we delve into the complexities of these cultural implications and challenges, let’s explore five key considerations:
The potential erosion of cultural identity through the commodification of traditional Vietnamese practices and customs.
The need for sustainable tourism practices that prioritize the preservation and celebration of Vietnam’s cultural heritage.
The importance of community engagement and empowerment in mitigating the negative effects of casino tourism on local cultures.
The implementation of responsible gambling measures to address issues related to addiction and social harm.
The promotion of cultural education and awareness among tourists to foster respect and appreciation for Vietnam’s unique heritage.
As Vietnam navigates the complexities of casino tourism, striking a balance between economic growth and cultural preservation remains paramount. By addressing these challenges with diligence and foresight, Vietnam can ensure that its vibrant cultural legacy continues to thrive alongside its burgeoning tourism industry.
Government Regulations and Policies
In response to the challenges posed by the expansion of casino tourism, the Vietnamese government has taken decisive action by implementing stringent regulations and policies. These measures are designed to foster sustainable development and promote responsible tourism practices within the industry. Through initiatives such as licensing requirements, taxation frameworks, and social safeguards, the government aims to ensure that casino operators uphold ethical standards and contribute positively to local communities.
Moreover, the government’s collaboration with industry stakeholders plays a crucial role in addressing the multifaceted issues associated with casino tourism. By fostering open communication and partnership between policymakers, casino operators, and local communities, Vietnam strives to strike a balance between economic growth and social responsibility. Together, these concerted efforts aim to harness the potential benefits of casino tourism while mitigating its adverse effects, ultimately creating a more sustainable and equitable tourism landscape for all stakeholders involved.
Sustainability and Responsible Tourism Practices
In the realm of casino tourism in Vietnam, sustainability and responsible tourism practices have emerged as crucial focal points. With the continued expansion of this industry, there’s a growing recognition of the need to mitigate its environmental impact and ensure the well-being of local communities. Casino operators are increasingly investing in eco-friendly initiatives, such as energy-efficient technologies and waste management programs, to reduce their ecological footprint. Moreover, they’re actively engaging in community development projects and cultural preservation efforts to foster positive relationships with residents and protect Vietnam’s rich heritage.
Furthermore, the emphasis on sustainability extends beyond the immediate vicinity of the casinos. Vietnam is also promoting responsible tourism practices among visitors, encouraging them to respect local customs, support small businesses, and minimize their environmental impact. Through education and awareness initiatives, tourists are empowered to contribute positively to the communities they visit while enjoying the country’s natural beauty and cultural treasures. By embracing sustainability and responsible tourism, Vietnam aims to ensure that its casino tourism industry continues to thrive in harmony with the environment and local culture, benefiting both present and future generations.

The surveyed caves ranged in length from 30 to 572 meters, with the longest four being: Va Cave (516m), 12/2 Dry Cave (404m) within PN-KB NPMB, Vuc Hung Cave (430m) in Thuong Trach commune within the buffer zone of PN-KB NPMB, and Ong Dau Cave (572m) in Lam Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district). Entrance heights of the caves varied from 46 to 550 meters, with depths ranging from 32 to 154 meters.
In this survey, the core area of PN-KB NPMB had 7 surveyed caves totaling 1,415 meters in length, the buffer zone of PN-KB NPMB had 7 surveyed caves totaling 1,027 meters in length, and the adjacent area in Lam Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district) had 11 surveyed caves totaling 1,108 meters in length.

According to Mr. Pham Hong Thai, Director of the PN-KB NPMB, these newly discovered caves are currently within the scope of preliminary research for location identification and preliminary description. Therefore, further in-depth surveys and studies are needed to better understand their value, enabling accurate assessments for conservation and sustainable exploitation of these landscapes and caves.
It is noted that identifying an additional 22 caves in the PN-KB NPMB area and adjacent regions is of significant importance to further clarify outstanding values related to geological and geomorphological features, hydrology within the PN-KB NPMB area, and is also a valuable resource for tourism development in Phong Nha-Ke Bang specifically, and Quang Binh province in general.
