Chinese tourists’ interest in Vietnam tourism nearly returns to pre-pandemic levels

During the Tet holiday in 2024, the online travel platform Agoda noticed signs of recovery in the demand for mainland Chinese tourists traveling to Vietnam.

Agoda’s search data indicates that the volume of searches from China to Vietnam during the 2024 Tet holiday has nearly returned to pre-pandemic levels. Chinese tourists’ interest in traveling to Vietnam in 2024 reached 95% compared to 2020 – the period before travel restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic were implemented.

Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam, Agoda’s Director in Vietnam, stated: “According to statistics from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, mainland Chinese tourists were the largest source of tourism revenue for Vietnam in 2019, accounting for nearly 1/3 of the total number of visitors to our country. The search figures for this Tet holiday almost reaching pre-pandemic levels is a positive signal for Vietnam’s tourism industry.”

In 2020, China ranked first in terms of searching for travel information in Vietnam. Tourists from this country choose Vietnam because of its rich culture and natural landscapes. However, the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak and border closures significantly reduced the number of visitors to Vietnam. After reopening, the search volume in 2022 and 2023 only reached 3% compared to 2020.

This year, the tourism landscape of Vietnam has seen some slight changes with Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Nha Trang, Da Nang, and Phu Quoc Island making it to the top 5 preferred destinations for Chinese tourists. The top 5 in 2020 were Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Hanoi, Da Nang, and Phan Thiet.

Mr. Lam also added that Vietnam has successfully attracted tourists from new markets such as India and South Korea after reopening thanks to favorable visa policies.

The People’s Committee of Phu Quoc City has just issued the Code of Conduct for Tourism Civility in Phu Quoc City, which includes regulations prohibiting tourists from giving money to beggars.

Mr. Huynh Quang Hung, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phu Quoc City (Kien Giang), announced on February 26 that he had just signed the issuance of the Code of Conduct for Tourism Civility in Phu Quoc.

Accordingly, Article 4 of the code clearly states that tourists are not allowed to give gifts or money to children and beggars at tourist sites or along the roads; instead, they are encouraged to contribute to charity through reputable organizations.

Article 4 also stipulates norms of queuing when using services or participating in activities in public places, consuming food responsibly, controlling alcohol consumption, wearing appropriate attire when visiting religious sites, temples, and cemeteries.

National Highway 8A up to Cau Treo border gate continues to be eroded

On February 27th, at around 1:00 p.m., there was a landslide on National Highway 8A in the Eo Co Gai bridge area of Son Kim 1 commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province. This was caused by continuous rainfall which caused rocks and trees from high cliffs to collapse and flood the area, covering tens of meters of the highway.

Fortunately, no people or vehicles were affected by the landslide. However, traffic was disrupted on the route leading to the Cau Treo International Border Gate.

The Cau Treo International Border Gate Border Guard Station quickly dispatched officers and soldiers to the scene. They coordinated with other functional forces to divide channels and regulate traffic. They also placed warning signs to ensure the safety of people and vehicles at both ends of the landslide location.

The functional forces immediately mobilized human resources and vehicles to handle, overcome, and clear the landslide at the scene. The area was affected by rain, cold, dense fog, and many layers of muddy mud spread across the road surface. However, National Highway 8A has since reopened to traffic, and functional units continue to clean up the scene.

It’s worth noting that on February 25th, there was also a serious landslide at Km82+300 due to prolonged rain. More than 1,000m³ of rocks and trees poured down from high cliffs, causing congestion on National Highway 8A.

Crypto exchange OKX has opened up OKX.TR is a localized version of the platform in Turkey, with trading pairs denominated in Turkish Lira.

“Turkey is a very important and special market for us. It ranks high in terms of crypto adoption and crypto transaction volume,” OKX President Hong Fang said in an interview with CoinDesk. “There is a natural tendency to look for value in bitcoin in Turkey, particularly for wealth preservation.”

The exchange announced its plans to expand into the country in early 2023. OKX will offer USDT/TRY, BTC/TRY, and ETH/TRY trading pairs for its local customers.

Brandt expects bitcoin’s ongoing bull market to peak at $200,000, a significant upward revision from the previous estimate of $120,000.

Veteran analyst and CEO of Factor LLC, Peter Brandt, foresees bitcoin rallying as high as $200,000 by September 2025.

Other studies, including those based on previous halving cycles and technical analysis indicators like the Bollinger bandwidth, suggest near-vertical price rallies ahead.

Peter Brandt, an analyst with over four decades of experience tracking markets, expects the ongoing bitcoin (BTC) bull market to peak at $200,000, a significant upward revision from the initial estimate of $120,000.

“With the thrust above the upper boundary of the 15-month channel, the target for the current bull market cycle scheduled to end in Aug/Sep 2025 is being raised from $120,000 to $200,000,” Brandt said on social media X.

Bitcoin rose past $55,000 on Monday, breaking out of the 15-month channel, identified by trendlines connecting November 2022 and September lows and April 2023 and Jan 2024 highs. Per Brandt, the bullish view will remain valid while prices exceed the past week’s low of around $50,500.

Several other studies suggest a steep bull run ahead, including those based on previous halving cycles and technical analysis indicators like the Bollinger bandwidth.

The consensus is that halving could continue to drive inflows into the U.S.-based spot BTC ETFs, sending prices at least into six figures over the next 12 months. Bitcoin’s reward halving, a quadrennial event due in April, will lower the rate at which coins are generated to 3.125 BTC from 6.25 BTC.

Brandt’s bullish post on X has some market participants toying with the idea of updating their profile pictures with “laser eyes” – a viral X meme that bitcoin holders used during the bull market of 2021 to suggest a perpetual market rally.

According to Brandt, the return of the laser eyes would be a contrary indicator, signaling retail investor mania, often observed at market tops.

“Just as I did in 2021, I will use laser eyes on ‘X’ as a contrary indicator. So, people, if you want bitcoin to remain in a strong trend please do not adopt laser eyes on your social media picture. Too many laser eyes will be the KOD,” Brandt warned.
