The pedestrian areas in the Hoan Kiem district will be open from December 29, 2023 (Friday) until January 1, 2024 (Monday), extending one more day compared to the previous schedule.

Specifically, the pedestrian area around Hoan Kiem Lake and its vicinity will operate from 7:00 PM on December 29, 2023 (Friday) until 12:00 AM on January 1, 2024 (Monday).

According to the Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem District, Pham Tuan Long, the extension of the operating hours for pedestrian areas in the district is aimed at providing favorable conditions for residents and tourists to move around conveniently during the New Year holiday in 2024.

Hoan Kiem District requests the departments, units, and companies under the district, Dong Xuan Joint Stock Company, and the People’s Committees of the wards to actively coordinate and effectively implement the assigned tasks, ensuring urban security, traffic order, environmental hygiene, and urban aesthetics; complying with regulations on disease prevention, fire prevention, and safety for residents and tourists.

High airfare prices pose challenges for Phu Quoc tourism

Advertisements

In an interview with a reporter from Tien Phong newspaper, Mr. Tran Quoc Khanh, Chairman of the Kien Giang Tourism Association, stated: “The high increase in domestic airfare has led to a decline in the number of domestic tourists, and several flights to Phu Quoc have been temporarily suspended”.

The domestic airfare to Phu Quoc is currently at a high level, and flights from Can Tho, Nha Trang, and Da Nang to Phu Quoc have been temporarily suspended for several months. “The increase in airfare has caused a decrease in the number of domestic tourists, and some flights to the ‘Pearl Island’ have been temporarily suspended. The revenue from domestic tourists is currently extremely challenging. This year, travel companies have only received about 50% of domestic tourists compared to the previous year. With fewer guests, there is no revenue, and some hotels have had to reduce prices. I also propose the need for a fare subsidy mechanism to encourage air travel for tourists. When there are visitors, businesses can trade and operate… Because the airfare is too high, domestic tourists choose to travel abroad more than domestic travel because it is cheaper,” Mr. Khanh said.

International visitors to Phu Quoc are forecast to increase sharply at the end of the year

Phu Quoc is implementing various community tourism development activities, building a series of attractive and unique annual events, and issuing a set of civilized tourism behavior rules in the area.

The Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phu Quoc City, Mr. Huynh Quang Hung, said: “We need to commit to tourists that the people of Phu Quoc and 100% of private establishments must adhere to the committed prices, selling at the advertised prices. Businesses that do not comply must be dealt with and fined.”

According to Mr. Hung, residents living on the island need to show respect, hospitality, civility, and courtesy; for example, students should bow slightly when encountering any tourist group…

In 2024, Kien Giang aims to welcome 9.2 million tourists for sightseeing and tourism, including approximately 680,000 international visitors, with total revenue reaching 20,000 billion VND.

Unique dish of rice with fruits in the Southwest region

Advertisements

In Vietnam, each region has its distinct features in terms of culture and cuisine. For instance, in the Southwest region, it is common to eat rice with fruit, which may sound strange to others. However, this dish is a familiar childhood flavor for all children growing up in this land.

The people in the Southwest can eat rice with a variety of fruits like watermelon, mango, banana, pineapple, and other salty dishes such as fried fish and braised meat. If they are thirsty, they can even eat rice with coconut water instead of soup.

The reason people in the Southwest have the habit of eating rice with fruit is because they are quite liberal, comfortable in living, and not picky about eating. Rice is a staple food, and eating it with refreshing fruit makes it easier to consume. For farming families who don’t have time to prepare and cook complicated dishes, eating rice with fruits available in the house is a quick way to continue unfinished farm work.

With the diversity of garden fruits and their creativity, people in the Southwest can combine many types of fruits to eat with rice. However, watermelon, banana, and mango are still the top choices because they are easy to eat and readily available.

Cao Bang proposes to open a tourist route to conquer Phja Da Peak

Advertisements

Phja Da mountain peak, located in Son Lap and Thai Son communes, Bao Lac district, is the highest peak in Cao Bang. It stands at 1,976.7m high but is not as famous or heavily exploited for tourism as Phja Oac. Recently, the local government invited experts to survey the mountain and promote the construction of a Phja Da mountain climbing tour.

The journey to the top of Phja Da involves passing through villages and crossing many terrains and landscapes in the forest. During winter, ice and snow can appear on the top of Phja Da, which attracts a large number of tourists.

Tourism products associated with Phja Da mountain are expected to bring livelihoods to people in the foothills area, contributing to hunger eradication and poverty reduction locally. Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Chairman of the Bao Lac District People’s Committee, believes that Son Lap commune has much potential for tourism development. The unique indigenous culture and the Phja Da mountain climbing tour can help attract tourists to the locality, bringing livelihoods to the people.

Accommodation and tourism businesses in Bao Lac hope that the Phja Da mountain climbing tour will soon be introduced and exploited, attracting many international tourists. The localities need to upgrade traffic routes and mobilize and guide people to do sustainable community tourism to achieve this.

Vietnamese horror films dominate cinemas at the end of the year

Advertisements

The horror-spiritual movie genre always has a certain appeal, evoking curiosity and excitement when it comes to theaters. In recent times, Vietnamese cinema has made progress in this film genre, exciting the country’s cinema-loving audiences with quality works.

All three Vietnamese films released at the end of this year are either horror works or have horror elements. Although not a new genre, Vietnamese horror films are making breakthroughs and impressing audiences.

Kẻ Ăn Hồn – A Soul Reaper (2023)
Quỷ Cẩu – Devil Dog (2023)
Tết ở làng Địa Ngục – Tet in Hell Village (2023)

Vietnamese horror films stand out by using familiar folklore stories in the films. This unique approach brings elements that are familiar to the public and arouses curiosity, creating a deeper and more meaningful experience than just scaring the audience.

Moreover, the presence of talented actors from both the North and South in the same work makes the films even more attractive.

Encouraging sales at the box office at the end of the year is motivating filmmakers to continue making better quality films in the future.

Bitcoin’s Share in Crypto Futures Trading Slides as Altcoin Profits Allure Traders

Advertisements

Bitcoin’s dominance by futures open interest has declined to 38% from nearly 50% two months ago.

Crypto traders are increasingly looking to alternative cryptocurrencies as 2023 draws to a close.

The dollar value locked in the number of active futures contracts tied to bitcoin now accounts for 38% of the market-wide notional futures open interest of $30.45 billion. That’s the lowest in at least two years, according to data tracked by Coinalyze.

“Seems ‘all’ the money is going into alts now,” Coinalyze told CoinDesk, explaining the decline in BTC’s dominance by open interest in futures.

The data show renewed risk appetite in the crypto market typically observed after a notable bitcoin uptrend.

Bitcoin, the leading cryptocurrency by market value, has surged over 60% to $43,100 since Oct. 1, mainly due to dwindling Treasury yields and expectations that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission would soon approve one or more spot BTC ETFs.

As of writing, BTC was up 161% on a year-to-date basis, and ether, the second-largest cryptocurrency, traded 88% higher.

BTC’s dominance by futures open interest has declined from nearly 50% in late October to 48%. ETH’s dominance has remained steady at nearly 21%, while the share of altcoins has increased from 32% to 41%.

The total revenue from tourist activities for the cooperative group reached around 205.586 trillion VND, equal to 102.7% of the annual plan.

This information was announced at the “Summary Conference on the Tourism Development Cooperation Program of the 8 Expanded Northwestern Provinces and Ho Chi Minh City in 2023,” held on December 25 in Sa Pa town, Lao Cai province. These figures affirm the effectiveness and explosive growth of tourism in the cooperative group.

The 8 expanded Northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City, including Dien Bien, Ha Giang, Hoa Binh, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Son La, Yen Bai, and Ho Chi Minh City, implemented the program under the “Agreement on Tourism Development Cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and the 8 Expanded Northwestern Provinces for the 2021-2025 period.”

To further enhance the depth and practical effectiveness of collaborative tourism development activities within the group, delegates at the conference unanimously agreed that in 2024, the cooperative group needs to accelerate the digital transformation process in the tourism industry. This includes building a national database, a shared data system on tourism, and creating safe destinations for tourists.

The Northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City are committed to advancing digital transformation, especially in promotional activities. This involves collaborating to build the Northwestern-Ho Chi Minh City Colorful Fanpage to introduce the strengths and tourism products of each locality, as well as strengthening linkages and sharing links on the tourism promotion websites of the provinces in the cooperative group.

The group intensifies promotional efforts for the tourism image of the 8 expanded Northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City on airlines and public information channels both domestically and internationally.

The group also emphasizes the application of digital technology in collaborative activities, linking tourism development, and enhancing the use of technology in tourism activities, state management, as well as in promotional and marketing activities through the development of a smart tourism ecosystem and convenient mobile applications to support tourists. The group connects online platforms to help businesses introduce and sell products in the online environment.

As the cooperation group’s leader in 2023, Lao Cai actively led and coordinated with member provinces to build plans, allocate funds according to local conditions, and direct the organization and participation in joint activities to achieve progress and effectiveness.

At the conference, Hoang Quoc Khanh, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lao Cai province, emphasized that in 2023, member provinces and cities in the cooperative group closely coordinated and implemented many effective activities. These included organizing the Festival of Northwestern Essence in Ho Chi Minh City, the Expanded Northwestern Cultural Tourism Week in Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, and Hanoi. Member provinces and cities conducted surveys to explore new tourism products on the Northwestern loop, such as the “Journey to connect the terraced fields of the Northwestern national heritage” – the story of traditional weaving between the land and sky of the Northwestern region, and “Majestic Northwestern” – Against the flow of the Da River into the realm of memories.

Notably, the Cultural and Tourism Week of the Northwestern and Ho Chi Minh City in Luang Prabang province (Laos) was the first international tourism promotion event implemented by the cooperative group.

“The events contribute significantly to promoting and vividly introducing the land, culture, and people of the 8 expanded Northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City, highlighting their strengths, attractive destinations for tourists and investors both domestically and internationally, as well as diverse tourism products, providing more choices for tourists and travel businesses in the journey to explore the Northwestern region,” emphasized the Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Lao Cai province.

At the conference, Lao Cai province handed over the symbol of the leader of the tourism development cooperation group of the 8 expanded Northwestern provinces and Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 to Phu Tho province.

Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, and Da Nang airports could deploy non-stop toll collection before Tet

Advertisements

On the sidelines of the year-end review conference of the Vietnam Road Administration on December 25, 2023, Mr. To Nam Toan, Head of the Department of Environmental Science and Technology and International Cooperation (Vietnam Road Administration, Ministry of Transport), stated that the Vietnam Road Administration is coordinating with the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and service providers to deploy Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) services at airports.

The installation of ETC toll collection devices at airports is implemented by ACV and is connected to two service providers, namely VDTC Company and VETC. “The Ministry of Transport is reporting to the Prime Minister to implement it first at major airports such as Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, and Da Nang. The government will convene a meeting this December to consider implementing ETC toll collection for vehicles entering airports and hopes to implement it before the Lunar New Year of the Snake,” said Mr. Toan.

However, there are differences between road tolls and ETC airport tolls, such as charging based on the parking time of vehicles.

Mr. To Nam Toan also mentioned that the delayed implementation of ETC toll collection at airports is due to waiting for related legal procedures. According to Decision 19 of the Prime Minister, the ETC account is only applicable to roads, so when expanding the service to ETC toll collection at airports, legal adjustments are needed.

In addition to expressways, the Ministry of Transport is also researching the application of ETC toll collection at airports, seaports, railway stations, and some related services for vehicles to reduce the direct impact of human involvement in toll collection processes.
