Xiaomi revealed a huge investment in its first electric car

Xiaomi founder Lei Jun recently revealed the huge investment that his brand has invested in the first electric car model that the company is expected to launch in the first half of 2024.

In an interview with Chinese media, Lei Jun said the company employed 3,400 engineers as well as R&D investments worth more than 1 billion EUR. According to him, that is 10 times more resources than usual, further reinforcing the commitment and trust that Xiaomi has in the  electric transportations market .

These are staggering numbers but in line with Xiaomi’s project, where the company aims to eventually enter the automotive industry for sales purposes. Also according to Lei Jun, Xiaomi will use proven technologies from reputable auto manufacturers.

However, Lei Jun also admitted that  Xiaomi  will face some challenges as he expressed concern about possible difficulties in the vehicle production line and could delay the delivery of the model. to all interested parties. According to this leader, a waiting period of 2 to 3 years will create a bad reputation for Xiaomi in the electric vehicle market.

The electric vehicle market is on a growth trend with more and more brands launching very interesting models. In the Chinese market, a number of startups have been established and recorded some success in this field. That means the company will face very fierce competition and the success of Xiaomi’s first electric car model may depend on delivery time rather than the car’s technology and price.

Bitcoin Miner Marathon Digital to Buy New Mining Sites for $179M

Advertisements

Marathon said the acquisitions will reduce the cost per coin mined by around 30%.

Bitcoin miner Marathon Digital (MARA) said it will buy two new mining sites from subsidiaries of lending firm Generate Capital for $178.6 million.

The acquisition, which will add 390 megawatts of capacity, will be paid in cash from Marathon’s balance sheet, the company announced on Tuesday. Across the two sites, around 21% is vacant and available for expansion, 63% is occupied by bitcoin mining tenants and 16% is already occupied by Marathon. Marathon said it expects the acquisitions to reduce the cost per coin mined by around 30%.

Generate Capital acquired stakes in two mining sites from bankrupt miner Compute North for $5 million in November last year.

Bitcoin’s (BTC) anticipated halving in April 2024 is leading mining firms to reassess their operations to ensure they are prepared for the rewards for creating new BTC being cut by 50%. One such way is by acquiring smaller firms to bring greater scale to their mining activities. Marathon said earlier this month it had $800 million to use to that end.

Marathon’s Nasdaq-listed shares are currently up about 7% on the day at $21.29, in line with its mining peers. The bitcoin price has risen about 1.66% in the last 24 hours.

The firm follows crypto exchange DigiFT, which received a CMS license last month.

Crypto asset manager HashKey Capital’s Singapore subsidiary has secured a central bank license allowing it to provide fund-management services in the country.

The Capital Markets Services (CMS) license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore will enable HashKey Capital Singapore to contribute to the local blockchain community, CEO Deng Chao said in a statement. It received an in-principle license in November 2022.

The company follows crypto exchange DigiFT, which received a CMS license in November, and SBI Digital Markets, a subsidiary of the digital assets arm of Japan’s financial services giant SBI Holdings, which was granted the license in September last year.

HashKey Capital wants to “create an environment where traditional and digital financial ecosystems harmoniously converge,” according to the statement.

The firm completed a $500 million raise for its third fund in January and is planning to invest in Web3 and crypto initiatives around the world.

Injective’s INJ Year-to-Date Gain Rises to 3,000% After Latest Jump

Advertisements

Artificial Intelligence hype is among the catalysts Injective’s INJ Year-to-Date Gain Rises to 3,000% After Latest Jump
Artificial Intelligence hype is among the catalysts for the outsized move.

Injective (INJ), the native token of its namesake’s layer 1 blockchain, surged to a record high of $39.15 on Tuesday to complete a 3,000% move to the upside over the course of 2023.

The token has risen by 28% in past 24-hours alone, with traders anticipating a wider altcoin rally following Solana’s recent hype-fueled growth.

Injective is a Cosmos-based blockchain that combines elements of artificial intelligence (AI) with decentralized finance (DeFi). It currently has just $18 million in total value locked, according to DefiLlama, although the token has experienced $600 million in trading volume in the past 24-hours.

Decentralized applications (dApps) built on Injective can use AI algorithms to improve market efficiency and optimize decisions for users, for example trades on decentralized exchanges. Injective also describes itself as the first blockchain to offer “auto-executing smart contracts,” which aims to increase efficiency.

The lack value capture on the Injective blockchain coupled with the hike in token prices suggests that traders are buying into the artificial intelligence narrative, which has also driven assets like fetch.ai (FET) and the graph (GRT) over the past few months.

The rise can also be attributed to an emerging trend of airdrop farmers who hop from blockchain to blockchain hoping to scoop up freshly-minted token airdrops. One X user explained how there are “many projects built on top of Injective that have confirmed an airdrop.”

Cherry blossoms bloom on the most beautiful tea hill in Vietnam

Advertisements

The green O Long tea hills in Vietnam are renowned for their breathtaking beauty, with early blooming cherry blossoms adding a touch of ethereal elegance. Against the backdrop of majestic mountains, this destination stands out as a true feast for the eyes and a testament to the wonders of nature. It’s no surprise that it’s often hailed as the most stunning tea hill in all of Vietnam.

O Long tea hills, situated at an elevation of around 1,800m above sea level in Sa Pa, Lao Cai, are beautifully planted and nurtured by local H’Mong people and foreign businesses. In the past, the tea hill exploitation company did not open its doors to visitors to avoid disrupting the tea factory’s work. However, this year, O Long Tea Hill is welcoming tourists who are interested in exploring its beauty.

The tea hill is located in a small valley, surrounded by high mountains of the majestic Hoang Lien Son range
The pink color of cherry blossoms mixed among the green tea hills creates a beautiful and poetic scene

To reach O Long Tea Hill, you need to travel about 8 km from the center of Sa Pa town, following National Highway 4D, which is also the main road to get to Silver Waterfall and O Quy Ho Pass. You can view the tea hills from the highway, making it easy to spot.

O Long Tea Hill is also known as O Quy Ho Tea Hill as it’s located on the main road to O Quy Ho Pass. When viewed from the pass, it looks like a whole tea hill shaped like a bowl stacked on top of each other, with a green color alternating with the bright pink and yellow of cherry blossoms, creating a stunningly beautiful scene.

O Long Tea Hill is beautiful from any angle, and the only way to appreciate its magical beauty is either from afar or from a bird’s eye view. When viewed from above, you’ll be amazed by the light pink color of young peach leaves mixed with the green color of tea trees, creating a beautiful natural picture.

Cherry blossom is a woody tree that usually sheds all its leaves around October-November every year, leaving only spindly branches. When spring arrives (from early December to the end of January), the flowers cover all the branches. The flowers of the cherry blossom are pale pink, and the young leaves on the spindly branches are bright red, making the tree glow in the sunlight.

Tea hills with the pink color of cherry blossoms hidden in the morning mist

To experience the most beautiful view of the flowers, it’s best to visit O Long Tea Hill early in the morning (from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m.). The first rays of dawn shine through the mysterious white mist, and the flowers and leaves of the cherry blossom receive the warm rays of sunlight, making them brighter. A sweet, clear pink color stands out on the green tea hills, creating a picturesque scene.

From 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., O Long Tea Hill is also an excellent place to visit and take photos. The lush green of young tea leaves and the pinkish color of flowers and cherry blossom leaves amidst a spacious, quiet environment give visitors an extremely comfortable feeling.

Why Vietnam coastal city of Da Nang listed among the 11 best places to travel in Asia for 2024?

Advertisements

Da Nang, situated on Vietnam’s central coast, has secured a spot on the prestigious Condé Nast Traveler’s list of the 11 best places to travel in Asia for 2024.

This recognition comes from the magazine’s readers, highlighting Da Nang as one of Asia’s success stories in the post-COVID era. The city, known for its modern beach setting and proximity to UNESCO-recognized sites like Hoi An and Hue, has experienced a surge in tourist numbers, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

Condé Nast Traveler emphasized Da Nang’s appeal by pointing out its geographical closeness to iconic destinations such as the ancient port city of Hoi An and the former imperial capital city of Hue. The magazine announced this list last Friday, praising Da Nang as a significant post-COVID success story in Asia.

Tourist arrivals in Da Nang have exceeded pre-pandemic figures, with a notable increase in recent times. In 2023, Vietnam Airlines resumed flights to Da Nang from key markets like Japan and Taiwan, leading to a significant spike in passenger numbers. According to the magazine, foreign travelers often visit Da Nang in June to attend the annual international fireworks festival hosted by the city.

One of Da Nang’s most attractive destinations is the Son Tra Peninsula, located approximately 10 kilometers from the city center. This peninsula boasts spread-out beaches, pristine forests, and a striking 17-story, 220-foot statue of Lady Buddha. Not only is it a captivating tourist spot, but it also serves as a habitat for endangered red-shanked douc langurs and various other wildlife within its nature reserve.

The Son Tra Peninsula nature reserve is home to nearly 1,000 plant species, including 22 rare and precious ones. The image attached to this information depicts tourists gathering at the iconic Rong (Dragon) Bridge, a popular attraction in Da Nang City.

My Khe Beach, renowned for its beauty, recently secured the eighth position among the 10 most beautiful beaches in Asia, as voted by readers of TripAdvisor, a globally recognized travel reviews website.

My Khe beach, Danang, Vietnam

Da Nang’s culinary scene is celebrated for central Vietnamese food specialties, including mi Quang, a noodle delicacy from the neighboring province of Quang Nam, and banh xeo (crispy pancakes).

The city has witnessed an influx of renowned hotels and resorts from across Asia. The InterContinental Sun Peninsula Resort, designed by Bill Bensley, completed an extensive 10th-anniversary renovation, introducing new facilities like a club lounge, villas, and spa amenities on the Son Tra Peninsula. In 2023, the IHG Hotel Group introduced voco Ma Belle Danang, and in 2024, the Mandarin Oriental hotel is set to debut, along with a facility from the wellness-focused Southeast Asian Fusion Hotel group.

Condé Nast Traveler noted the growing interest of hotel and resort developers in Da Nang, acknowledging its newfound popularity among travelers.

To further boost international tourism, Vietnam relaxed visa regulations for foreign tourists in 2023, particularly targeting visitors from Europe. This move aimed to attract more international travelers to Vietnam, including the vibrant city of Da Nang.

Apart from Da Nang, other destinations on the Condé Nast Traveler’s list for 2024 include Singapore, Chinatown in Thailand, Kochi in India, Kobe in Japan, Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE, and Kathmandu Valley in Nepal, among others.

Ho Chi Minh City: Requires inspection and handling of encroachment on roads and sidewalks

Advertisements

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport has reported an increase in people violating regulations by stopping, parking, and occupying roads and sidewalks to conduct business or to park two-wheeled vehicles. This situation is particularly problematic in crowded areas and locations.

The department has identified 64 crowded places in Ho Chi Minh City, such as walking streets, shopping centers, schools, and hospitals, that have a complicated situation of stopping, parking, and occupying the road and sidewalks, which can cause disorder and potential traffic accidents.

To address this issue, the Department of Transport has requested functional units and local authorities to strengthen their management, and regularly inspect, and handle organizations and individuals who violate the regulations.

Marking sidewalks for pedestrians

To create more space for pedestrians, many sidewalks in Ho Chi Minh City have been marked with lines, temporarily allowing motorbikes to park for free, provided that a sidewalk of more than 1.5 meters is left according to regulations. Shortly, the department will seek opinions from households to build parking spaces and small businesses for a fee.

District 1 currently has 85 roads that are eligible for the temporary use of part of the sidewalk. According to statistics, Ho Chi Minh City has 1,238 roads with a roadway width of 7.5 m or more and 929 roads with sidewalks of 3 m or more in width. District 1 proposes a fee for temporarily using sidewalks for business at 50,000-100,000 VND/m2/month. The fee for using the roadbed for parking cars, motorbikes, and bicycles is 180,000-350,000 VND/m2/month.

It is expected that a part of the road and sidewalks will be used for parking, small businesses, and fees in 2024. Local authorities at ward and commune levels will collect opinions from people and householders with facades on these sidewalks.

BONK’s Surge Send Prices of Solana Saga Phone Flying to $2K

The sealed and unopened phone boxes contain an airdrop of 30 million bonk tokens, which has seemingly revived dismal Saga sales.

A dog-themed meme token may have just resurrected sales of Solana’s Saga phone – with some now selling for as much as $5,000 after earlier being deemed a “failure” by its makers.

Several Saga phones on online marketplace eBay (EBAY) have been sold for upward of $2,000 apiece, site data shows. Most of these phones are listed as “sealed and unopened,” and their sellers are predominately from the U.S.

One phone was sold for as high as $5,000, The Block earlier reported.

Sales of Solana Saga phones picked up last week as some arbitrage traders appeared to be chasing a 30 million BONK token airdrop given to every phone owner. The airdrop was worth over $700 at peak last week – for a phone that costs $599.

Earlier in November, the dog-themed BONK gained rapid popularity among blockchain users, spiking as much as 110% during one 24-hour period and extending 30-day gains to over 700%.

That seemingly lifted the fortunes of the Saga phone, whose disappointing sales prompted uncertainty about its future previously

“We haven’t seen a ton of signal whether that’s a compelling enough thing to sell 50,000 units,” Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko said during an interview at the time. “I think 25,000 to 50,000 units to feel like there is a hardcore user base for developers to be compelled to ship applications.”

The phone first went on sale earlier this year, and in August, its price was cut to $599 from $1,000.

Saga has since sold out in the U.S. and European Union, Solana co-founder Raj Gokal posted last Friday.

Bitcoin Hovers Over $41K as Memecoin, Ordinals Frenzy Clogs up Blockchains

Longs continue to get liquidated as the price of bitcoin and other major digital assets gyrate.

Bitcoin (BTC) opened the trading week marginally higher, trading above $41,000. Ether (ETH) was also up slightly, trading above $2,100.

Data from Coinglass have been $103.5 million in liquidations of token-tracked futures in the past 12 hours, and $95 million of them have been longs, or bets on higher prices. Of the $103.5 million in total liquidations, $33 million in bitcoin positions were liquidated, with $29 million of those being long bitcoin positions.

Lucy Hu, a Senior Analyst with Hong Kong-based digital asset management firm Metalpha says the broader market continues to hold up quite well despite the recent Ledger hack with rate cuts on the horizon and things like ordinals driving more interest in bitcoin.

“The massive Ledger hack did swing some sentiment in the DeFi space and raises important questions on wallet security,” she said in an email interview. “Besides, the stellar rise of Bitcoin Ordinals continues to fuel enthusiasm for Bitcoin miners, who have been heavily rewarded. We expect the long-term growth momentum of Bitcoin to remain on track.”

Predictions still optimistic

Despite bitcoin’s current correction phase, end-of-year predictions for 2024-2025 still remain optimistic, especially when compared to last year’s dour predictions of $10-12k bitcoin.

In a recent end-of-year report, Woo Network targets a $75K price point for BTC for “early 2024.” Bitwise, has a similar price target, with the fund predicting that bitcoin will trade above $80,000.

“Spot bitcoin ETFs will be approved, and collectively will be the most successful ETF launch of all time,” Bitwise also predicted. “Coinbase’s revenue will double, beating Wall Street expectations by at least 10x.”

Memecoins clogging up Layer-1s

Gas fees are spiking on Ethereum and many layer-1 chains, such as Avalanche, as dozens of new meme coins flood the market.

Avalanche has generated $5 million in fees over the last 24 hours, while Ethereum, with its significantly larger market cap, has generated $13.52 million.

Arbitrum and Optimism have also seen a large spike in gas fees during the last week.

Some of these layer-1 tokens declined faster than bitcoin or ether, with AVAX down 6% and Solana’s SOL token down 4%.
