Several traders experienced ‘slippage’ as liquidity declined across major exchanges.
Binance has long been the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volumes. Still, on Monday, traders looking to buy and sell bitcoin (BTC) quickly on Binance were at a relative disadvantage to their peers on Kraken and Coinbase (COIN), according to data tracked by Paris-based Kaiko.
The 0.1% ask depth on Binance, a measure of buy-side liquidity, crashed to just 1.2 BTC ($30,000) from 100 BTC as volatility exploded after a false report of BlackRock’s (BLK) spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) approval circulated on social media. The leading cryptocurrency popped 7.5% to $30,000 in a knee-jerk reaction to the rumor, only to give up gains after BlackRock denied the report.
The 0.1% ask depth refers to the number of outstanding purchase orders within 0.1% of the mid-price or average of the bid and ask prices. Ask price is the price at which the seller is ready to sell and bid is the value at which the buyer is ready to purchase.
The higher the bid and ask depth, the easier it is to execute large buy and sell orders at stable prices and the lower the slippage – the difference between the expected price at which a trade is placed and the actual price at which the trade goes through.
The 0.1% depth also dipped as low as 2 BTC on OKX and Bybit, with the average ask across major exchanges falling below 95 BTC.
The broad-based decline in liquidity saw several market participants, including pseudonymous traders exitpump and Omz, lose money due to slippage. Some traders saw slippage as high as 20%.
The chart shows Kraken and Coinbase outperformed Binance and other exchanges during the liquidity meltdown.
The sticky liquidity on the two exchanges likely reflects the relative sophistication of their market makers – entities tasked with creating liquidity in an order book, according to Carey.
On October 16th, the Hanoi City Police held a press conference to provide an update on the investigation into the tragic murder case of a 17-year-old girl. The police have made significant progress in their initial investigation and have officially decided to prosecute Ta Duy Khanh, a 38-year-old individual from Thai Binh province, for the crime of murder.
During the press conference, Major General Nguyen Thanh Tung, the deputy director of Hanoi Police, shed light on the relationship between the victim, identified as H.Y.N., and the accused. It was revealed that Khanh and the victim had been closely acquainted since 2023.

The sequence of events leading to the gruesome murder unfolded on October 10th when Khanh invited Ms. N. to his private residence for a meal. However, matters quickly escalated when Khanh approached N. to collect a debt of 50 million VND. The request turned into a heated argument, which ultimately culminated in a violent act.
According to Major General Tung, Khanh resorted to the use of a large, sharp fruit knife, and stabbed the victim five times. Following this brutal act, he then proceeded to dismember the body before hiding it.
Mr. Tung described the accused’s actions as barbaric, as Khanh went to great lengths to destroy any traces of his crime. The body was wrapped in blankets, cement was poured to encase it, and finally, it was buried on the riverbank. Soon after committing this heinous act, Khanh fled the scene.
Major General Tung emphasized that, after thorough verification and investigation, law enforcement authorities have determined that there are no signs of accomplices in this case, yet the police will continue their efforts to gain further clarity.
Call a cab to take the body to the riverbed and bury it, then cover it with cement
According to the Hanoi City Police, new details have emerged regarding the horrifying murder case involving Ms. N. The suspect, Ta Duy Khanh, allegedly dismembered the victim’s body with a knife before sealing the body parts inside a white foam box using tape.
To dispose of the evidence, Khanh called a taxi and transported the foam box containing Ms. N.’s remains to Mieu Ban in Giang Cao village, Bat Trang commune, Gia Lam district. Once there, Khanh discarded some of the body parts into the Red River and buried a portion at the river’s edge.
After successfully disposing of the victim’s body, Khanh arranged for a driver, identified as L.N.T., to pick him up and return to the apartment. Immediately upon arrival, Khanh took a motorbike to Thanh Tri Bridge, where he disposed of Ms. N.’s two phones in the Red River. Additionally, he hid the victim’s bag and sandals in a motel located in Village 2, Bat Trang commune.
On the afternoon of October 12, fearing that the hidden body would be discovered, Khanh purchased a bag of cement for 125,000 VND from a local market near the Da Ton intersection in Gia Lam. He intended to use the cement to cover the area where the body was concealed and prevent its detection.
However, due to the crowded surroundings, Khanh decided to bring the cement home and postponed the task until later. At dawn on October 13, acting alone, Khanh returned to the crime scene and poured the cement over the hidden body, effectively concealing it from sight.

The case took a dramatic turn on the afternoon of the same day when authorities discovered Ms. N.’s body. Fearing capture, Khanh rushed to Giap Bat bus station and boarded a bus in an attempt to flee back to Thai Binh.
However, the efforts of the Social Order Crime Investigation Police Department of Hanoi City Police combined with the coordination of Thai Binh Provincial Police proved fruitful. At approximately 11 p.m. on October 14, Khanh was apprehended at his residence in Dong Thai commune, Kien Xuong district, Thai Binh province. During the arrest, the suspect inflicted a self-inflicted knife wound, prompting authorities to rush him to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
The investigation into this gruesome case is ongoing, as authorities work tirelessly to gather more evidence and piece together the events surrounding the tragic demise of Ms. N.

According to the Chronicle, Miss Gibraltar 2022 1st Princess, Jaylynn Cruz, is currently representing Gibraltar in the prestigious Miss Grand International beauty pageant in Vietnam.
However, before embarking on this incredible journey, she dedicated a special tribute to her mother, Lynette Cruz, by recreating iconic moments from her mother’s past. In an exclusive interview with Charlene Figueras, Jaylynn and Lynette shared their heartfelt sentiments about this touching ‘Homage to my Mother’ photo shoot.
Jaylynn Cruz began her journey by taking time for herself, both mentally and physically. She expressed the importance of spending quality time with her loved ones while continuing her course in Positive Behaviour Support. To ensure she represents Gibraltar to the best of her ability, Jaylynn dedicated herself to preparing for the Miss Grand International pageant and exploring the history of her beloved Gibraltar.
Jaylynn’s mother, Lynette Cruz, was a former beauty pageant contestant, having participated in the 1993 Miss Gibraltar pageant. Jaylynn always admired her mother’s iconic photoshoot images and the confidence they exuded. Her mother’s success in the pageant, especially the stunning and unfiltered analog images taken by the legendary Eduardo Viotto, left a lasting impression on her.
Growing up in the close-knit community of Gibraltar, Jaylynn often heard comments like ‘que te parece a tu madre,’ highlighting the striking resemblance she shared with her mother. This connection became apparent during a 2017 photoshoot where Jaylynn noticed the similarities between her image and one of her mother’s earlier shots. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that mother and daughter decided to embark on the journey of recreating Lynette’s iconic photoshoot.
Yvette Aitken Perera played a significant role by lending Jaylynn the original dress worn by Lynette during her photoshoot, a masterpiece designed by Eduardo Viotto himself. The fact that the dress remained as beautiful as ever after all those years is a testament to the care and respect people hold for Eduardo Viotto’s creations.
Lynette Cruz recounted her original photoshoot in October 1992, which was initiated by the Plater Youth Club in Gibraltar, where she was a committee member. The shoot was an eye-opening experience that introduced her to the world of fashion, design, makeup, and creativity. She recalled the incredible team that supported her – Derek McMahon, Johnny Harper, Alex Britto, and the late Eduardo Viotto. The transformative experience allowed Lynette to see herself in a different light, leading her to participate in local pageants and ultimately, the Miss Gibraltar 1993 pageant.
When Jaylynn recreated her mother’s iconic images, Lynette was moved to tears. Watching her daughter reenact her poses and outfits allowed Lynette to relive the joy and confidence she had experienced during her own photoshoot. The special moment was a beautiful connection between mother and daughter, both bound by their shared experiences in the world of fashion and beauty.
Jaylynn Cruz’s ‘Homage to my Mother’ photo shoot is a heartfelt tribute to her mother, Lynette Cruz, and a journey that beautifully bridges the generational gap. The Green and Smart Mobility Joint Stock Company (GSM) has initiated the import of 150 VinFast electric cars into the Laotian market for the deployment of the Green SM electric taxi service.
GSM
This marks the first step in their plan to expand into foreign markets, positioning GSM as a regional and global ride-hailing company, contributing to the widespread adoption of electric vehicles by the masses.
According to the plan, GSM aims to launch its electric taxi service in Laos in 2023 with a fleet of up to 1,000 VF 5 Plus and VF e34 electric cars. Initially, GSM will develop its electric taxi service and move towards building a complete ecosystem of services, including electric car rentals and value-added services such as all-inclusive ride packages, tour reservations, and personalized car booking.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, the CEO of GSM, stated that besides its core business, in the future, GSM Laos will also engage in B2B activities such as selling and leasing VinFast electric cars, similar to the successful model implemented in Vietnam.
With various modes of access, GSM will gradually establish the habit of using eco-friendly, intelligent, and environmentally friendly transportation in daily life in Laos, providing local residents with a top-notch, noise-free, emission-free travel experience. Through the Green SM taxi service, GSM will also promote Vietnam’s pride – VinFast – in the regional market.
Laos has policies that support and encourage the use of electric vehicles in government agencies and among the general population. The national goal is to have 30% of all vehicles on the road be electric by 2030, with 200 public charging stations nationwide. According to the data from the Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport, by the end of 2022, there were 1,326 registered electric cars in circulation. In the first four months of 2023 alone, an additional 526 electric cars were imported. The charging station network in Laos is also being developed, with 17 stations already in operation.
“Laos is a geographically close country with many similarities to Vietnam, and it is also very open to electric vehicles, making it an excellent choice for GSM to launch its international strategy. After Laos, we will continue to expand our operations to other countries to quickly realize the mission of a green future for humanity. In addition, GSM aims to be a bridge to introduce Vietnamese electric vehicles to the world,” shared Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh.
GSM was established and began operations in Vietnam in April, following a multi-platform green transportation model as the first of its kind in the world, with a fleet of 100% electric vehicles. Within just six months of operation, GSM achieved record growth in scale and speed, carrying out more than 6 million passenger transport trips, earning praise from both consumers and transport companies. According to the plan, Green SM will be present in 27 out of 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam by the end of 2023, increasing the electric taxi fleet to 30,000 cars and more than 90,000 electric motorcycles in the near future.

Hanoi has risen one notch from last year, reaching the 96th position in the ranking of the “100 Best Cities for Tourism in the World” compiled by the leading travel consultancy company, Resonance Consultancy (Canada).
Apart from Hanoi, Singapore (5th) and Bangkok (39th) are the remaining representatives from Southeast Asia to make it into the top 100.
The top spot on this year’s list belongs to the capital of the United Kingdom – London, followed by Paris and New York.
To compile the ranking, the Canadian-based company analyzed over 270 cities worldwide with populations exceeding one million people to determine the top 100 based on criteria such as attractions and sights, airport connectivity, parks and entertainment, nightlife, restaurants, shopping areas, and per capita GDP, grouped into three pillars.
“Although not as large or bustling as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi offers a plethora of activities and attractions, from vibrant local markets to inspiring heritage sites like the UNESCO-recognized Imperial Citadel, and a lively nightlife that has its unique appeal,” the report stated.
Outdoor activities and shopping are the biggest highlights in Vietnam’s capital.
Hanoi, home to 7.5 million people, boasts a variety of traditional markets and upscale shopping services. The pedestrian zones around Hoan Kiem Lake and some streets in the Old Quarter opening on Saturdays and Sundays are a magnet for Hanoi’s residents and tourists on weekends.
According to the City’s Department of Tourism, Hanoi welcomed 18.9 million tourists in the first nine months of 2023, a 36.5% increase compared to the same period last year.
Among these, foreign tourists numbered 3.2 million, quadrupling the figure from the same period last year and surpassing this year’s target of 3 million.

This will also bring many benefits to Gojek’s driver and restaurant partners, as they can access a wider user community, with more opportunities to increase their income and revenue.”
Gojek’s expansion comes after several successful projects this year, including the pilot use of electric motorcycles to serve users’ transportation, delivery, and food ordering needs in Ho Chi Minh City through collaborations with electric motorcycle companies, and introducing the online food ordering feature GoFood to the MoMo platform.
Arbitrum projects will receive token grants that may help attract new money to the popular blockchain.
Several projects built on the Arbitrum blockchain have bagged a cumulative stash of $40 million in ARB tokens as part of a short-term incentives program (STIP) round that ended late Thursday.
A tally shows 29 Arbitrum projects pitched their product and services to token holders over the past week, hoping to win votes for a chunk of the 50 million ARB tokens, worth nearly $40 million at current prices.
The STIP is a one-time distribution and grantees cannot convert ARB rewards to other tokens or participate in any governance activities. The proposal for the grant was floated and approved earlier in September.
Perpetual trading protocol GMX bagged the most rewards at 12 million ARB, worth just over $10 million, followed by Gains Network at 7 million ARB.
Ether staking powerhouse Lido Finance was among the surprise duds, failing to win approval amid concerns that it could control a third of all staked ether tokens.
These projects are now expected to use the tokens to provide increased rewards for users that support those protocols, such as by supplying liquidity or using services, in a move that may attract funds to the blockchain as traders hunt for investment strategies.
Suoi Thau steppe is a wild and majestic location in the western land of Ha Giang province, located about 5km from Coc Pai town. It sits at an altitude of over 1,200m above sea level and is approximately 150km from Ha Giang city. During this time of the year, the steppe is filled with corn fields, green grasslands, and buckwheat blooming amidst a sea of white clouds that stretch as far as the eye can see.
Buckwheat is a durable and fragile flower that can withstand the cold and shows off its bright colors on the barren rocky soil of the highlands. In Ha Giang, buckwheat is grown as food and made into cakes or some other local dishes. Buckwheat flowers begin to bloom in late autumn and gently intertwine amidst the rolling mountains of Ha Giang. This is also the flower that signals that Ha Giang has entered the tourist season, the most beautiful season of the year.
During buckwheat flower season, the monotonous sky of Suoi Thau becomes more lyrical and poetic than ever.
Visitors can admire the fields of buckwheat flowers blooming in the sea of clouds from mid-October to near the end of November. The flower is most beautiful when it is about to wither, changing color from white to pinkish to dark red.
In recent years, buckwheat has been grown in many places such as Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Meo Vac, and Dong Van, and visitors can easily find and watch the flower carpet winding along the hillsides of Ha Giang comfortably. Buckwheat flowers have become a highlight, attracting a large number of tourists to Ha Giang every year, especially young people who are passionate about exploring.
Some 198 million FLR will be burned immediately with a further 66 million set to be burned monthly until January 2026.
The developer of Flare blockchain told CoinDesk on Friday that they will burn 2.1 billion FLR tokens to support ecosystem development and overall health.
More than 2% of FLR’s total supply will be permanently removed from circulation, preventing dilution of community token holdings and increasing incentives for new users to join the network.
The tranche of tokens that are scheduled to be burned had been allocated to Flare’s early backers. These tokens will no longer be distributed after Flare reaches an agreement with these entities on how the first Flare Improvement Proposal, FIP.01, should affect token allocations to equity shareholders.
Some 198 million FLR will be burned immediately with a further 66 million set to be burned monthly until January 2026.
At the time of writing, FLR was trading at $0.0094. Based on current prices the total number of tokens burned will have a value of around $20 million.
“We are very happy to have reached an agreement with our shareholders and thank them for their support,” Hugo Philion, CEO and co-founder of Flare, said in a statement. “Without this burn, the investors would be able to claim approximately 3x their original allocation through the FlareDrops, unfairly diluting community holdings.”
FIP.01 was approved by the Flare community in January with 94% in favor.
Ho Chi Minh City has been experiencing thick fog in recent days, with a high concentration of fine dust in the air. Monitoring applications have revealed that many districts in the city are experiencing high levels of air pollution, and weather experts predict that this phenomenon will continue until the end of 2023.
The cause of this fog formation is due to the continuous evening rain, which has caused the air humidity to exceed 90%. This increase in humidity, combined with a sharp temperature drop at night, causes water vapor to condense, forming a dense fog. Moreover, the fine dust in the air forms nuclei, which bind to water vapor, resulting in the formation of dense fog from night to morning.
Experts have warned that the fine dust in the lower levels of air can easily enter the human body through the airways, causing pneumonia and pharyngitis. Therefore, it is highly recommended that people wear masks and sunglasses while traveling to protect their health.

Ether showed signs of stability after a nearly weeklong decline.
Bitcoin slipped just under 1% in the past 24 hours as bearish calls among analysts including Jim Cramer, a former hedge fund manager and host of CNBC’s Mad Money, grew. Overall market capitalization lost 0.3%.
Ether (ETH) showed signs of stability around $1,500 with a 0.5% gain after a nearly weeklong slide. The token started to drop Monday after the influential Ethereum Foundation sold $2.7 million worth of ETH for stablecoins.
XRP and BNB Chain’s bnb tokens fell 0.4%, while Solana’s SOL dropped 1.4%. The only gainer among large-cap tokens was Chainlink’s LINK, which added 2.2% as one research firm noted it was likely the “safest bet” to profit from the emerging real-world asset (RWA) tokenization trend.
The CoinDesk Market Index (CMI), a broad-based indicator made up of hundreds of tokens, fell 0.4% to suggest overall losses among investor holdings.
Cramer joined an increasing cohort of bearish analysts Tuesday, suggesting bitcoin could “go down big.”
Earlier this week, several traders told CoinDesk that they expected risky assets, such as bitcoin and technology stocks, to fall further as the conflict between Hamas and Israel worsened – prompting fears of global instability and a flight to safe assets.
