Airfare prices soar during September 2nd holiday

Advertisements

Airplane ticket prices from major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to tourist destinations during the September 2nd holiday are significantly higher, even reaching one and a half to two times the usual rates.

Although the National Day holiday on September 2nd is still over a month away, a survey by VTC News on July 30th of various airline websites and online ticketing systems shows that domestic flight ticket prices have been pushed up.

Specifically, round-trip tickets for the Hanoi – Da Nang route, departing on September 1-2 and returning on September 5, from Vietnam Airlines cost between 3.8 to 4.6 million dong. For the same airline, if one travels two to three days before the holiday, the ticket prices are only between 2.5 to 3.1 million dong, including taxes and fees.

Vietnam Airlines round-trip tickets for the Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang route, departing on September 1-2 and returning on September 5, range from 3.2 to 4.1 million dong. Meanwhile, Vietjet’s prices range from 2.8 to 4.2 million dong. In contrast, during regular days, round-trip tickets for the same routes are only between 2.1 to 2.8 million dong, inclusive of taxes and fees.

Air tickets on the occasion of September 2 and July 30 are sold at double the price on weekdays.

For other flight routes from Hanoi to tourist destinations such as Da Lat, Hue, Nha Trang, and Da Nang during the National Day holiday, the lowest ticket price offered by Bamboo Airways starts from 3.7 million dong, including taxes and fees. For Vietnam Airlines, the prices start from 4.2 million dong. The cheapest option among these routes is from VietJet Air, but even their tickets start at 3.2 million dong, which is twice the price of regular days.

Similarly, round-trip tickets for flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue, Da Nang, Nha Trang, etc., during the National Day holiday are also priced at 3.2 million dong and above, while on regular days, the prices are only around 2.2 million dong.

Hanoi plans to continue building Belt Road 5

Advertisements

Hanoi city is planning to construct the Belt Road 5 before 2027. The road is over 300km long, with a 48km section passing through Hanoi city and designed with a 6-lane expressway.

A report on the 15-year implementation of Resolution 15 by the National Assembly on expanding the administrative boundaries of Hanoi city reveals that the city is currently accelerating the progress of the master plan for the capital city from 2021 to 2030, with a vision towards 2050.

Accordingly, the city aims to make significant breakthroughs in infrastructure, especially in the belt road system, radial axes, and road bridges. They plan to complete several crucial transportation projects urgently within their territory.

Specifically, Hanoi is striving to complete Belt Road 4 before 2027 and sets a target to construct Belt Road 5 before 2027. In the coming time, they will expedite the progress of elevated transportation projects and urban railways.

Hanoi aims to soon complete the belt roads and radial traffic axes.

According to the approved detailed plan in 2014, Belt Road 5 stretches approximately 331km (excluding 41km overlapping with expressways such as Noi Bai – Ha Long, Hanoi – Thai Nguyen, Noi Bai – Lao Cai, and National Highway 3). It passes through 36 districts, towns, and cities of Hanoi, Hoa Binh, Ha Nam, Thai Binh, Hai Duong, Bac Giang, Thai Nguyen, and Vinh Phuc.

The segment passing through Hanoi is 48km long, over 35km through Hoa Binh; over 35km through Ha Nam; over 28km through Thai Binh; nearly 53km through Hai Duong; around 50km through Bac Giang; almost 29km through Thai Nguyen, and over 51km through Vinh Phuc.

The road has a scale of 4-6 lanes, with a minimum roadbed width of 22-33m and includes shoulders on both sides. The estimated investment capital for Belt Road 5 in the capital region is about 85.56 trillion VND (calculated at 2013 prices).

In a recent response to constituents in Bac Giang province, the Ministry of Transport informed that in the planning of the road network for the period 2021-2030 and vision to 2050, which was approved by the Prime Minister, the section of Belt Road 5 passing through Bac Giang province is approximately 50km long, with a 6-lane expressway, and the investment process will take place before 2030.

The Ministry of Transport evaluates that early investment and exploitation of Belt Road 5, in general, are necessary to stimulate socioeconomic development in the region.

Due to limited budget allocation for the mid-term public investment plan for the period 2021-2025, the Ministry has not been able to allocate funding for the implementation of Belt Road 5 during that period.

During this time, many localities (Vinh Phuc, Ha Nam, Thai Binh, Thai Nguyen) have proactively invested in construction and put some sections of the belt road into operation.

A significant number of these international visitors were from countries like South Korea, China, Singapore, who not only came to enjoy the idol group’s performance but also combined it with sightseeing and savoring Hanoi’s cuisine.

The total tourism revenue in July is estimated to be over 8.6 trillion VND (Vietnamese dong), marking a 37.7% increase compared to the same period in 2022 and a 9.8% increase from June 2023.

It is expected that in the first seven months of 2023, the total number of tourists to Hanoi will reach 14.7 million, a 38.7% increase compared to the same period in 2022.

Regarding accommodation and other tourism services, by the end of July, the average room occupancy rate reached 60.8%, a 19.2% increase compared to the same period in 2022. From mid-July, many hotels in Hanoi, especially in My Dinh (Nam Tu Liem District) and Hoan Kiem District, were fully booked.

Marina Hotel (Mieu Dam, Me Tri) recorded an unprecedented full occupancy rate by the end of July. The hotel representative mentioned that room shortages were not common during weekends in July. However, due to the popularity of the Korean group’s concert, the hotel was fully booked on July 29th and 30th. Most guests who made reservations were concerned about the distance and transportation to My Dinh Stadium.

Western Skyline, with a total of 43 rooms, also reported a room occupancy rate of 90% on July 29th.

Previously, according to surveys from the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the BlackPink concert held in Bangkok (Thailand) at the beginning of 2023 had contributed to boosting tourism in Thailand amidst difficulties faced by the industry due to the pandemic. It was estimated that Thailand’s tourism industry gained over 20-30 million USD from accommodation, flight tickets, and consumer spending in the five days before and after the concert. Similarly, Singapore earned over 35 million USD, and Indonesia also achieved a similar figure.

According to evaluations from many experts, BlackPink’s concert in Hanoi played a crucial role in attracting international tourists. This music festival has opened up a completely new tourism product.

On July 28th, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism announced that the entire country received 1.038 million international visitors in July 2023, a 6.5% increase compared to the previous month. July marked the first time Vietnam welcomed over one million international tourists since the reopening of international tourism on March 15, 2022.

Hanoi: BlackPink dances to ‘See Tình’, wearing Nón Lá to interact with Vietnamese audiences

Advertisements

The performance of the Korean group BlackPink began to burn on the stage of My Dinh National Stadium at 19:45 on July 29, with the presence of four girls on stage.

The group gave a hearty music party with a variety of hit songs, exceeding the fans’ expectations. The four girls, Lisa, Rosé, Jennie, and Jisoo, delivered wonderful performances as well as fiery dances that had the crowd on its feet. The group’s notable songs, such as “Lovesick Girl”, “Don’t Know What to Do”, and “Kill This Love”, were performed in turn.

The members of BlachPink greeted the audience after the opening performance. Jisoo, Rosé, and Lisa each said: “Xin Chào” (Hello) before introducing themselves.

Even though the members only spoke broken Vietnamese, it was enough to wow fans in My Dinh Stadium.

After that, Jennie and Jisoo danced to the “See Tình” challenge. Jisoo is still shy since she doesn’t know the dance moves yet. Then, Jennie taught the group to do the challenge. Many people in Korea and China have covered Hoang Thuy Linh’s song “See Tình” in recent years.

BlackPink came to a break after dancing to “See Tình” and started to interact with the crowd. They say things like, “Nice to meet you”, “Do you guys have fun?”, “Scream, you guys!”, and “I love you” in Vietnamese.

The girls were wearing Nón Lá

The group wearing Nón Lá (conical hats) then sang and danced with the dancing troupe to conclude the first night’s performance.

The show ended at about 22:00, and the four members continued shouting love and thank you to the crowd. Thousands of people remained in the grandstand, watching the fireworks that the organizers had let off to say goodbye.

German newspaper praises Vietnam as new hot destination in Southeast Asia

Advertisements

Germany’s DW news website states that tourism has almost fully recovered after the pandemic, and Vietnam is gradually becoming a preferred destination for tourists visiting Asia.

Vietnam has rapidly become one of the most popular destinations in Southeast Asia, offering tourists a chance to enjoy diverse landscapes such as mountains, beaches, terraced fields, and the vibrant atmosphere of its cities.

According to the Google Destination Insights report, Vietnam was among the most searched destinations from March to June and was the only Southeast Asian country to make it into the top 20.

Vietnam’s popularity is evident from the increasing number of international visitors. The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism announced in June that the country had welcomed over 5.5 million foreign arrivals in the first six months of 2023, surpassing the total international arrivals in 2022.

Tourism growth in Vietnam has exceeded expectations

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism initially aimed to welcome 8 million tourists in the remaining months of 2023, but they now predict that the number may rise to 10 million.

Bobby Nguyen, the chairman of Rustic Hospitality Group, a travel company, told DW that the increase in tourist numbers is mainly due to visitors from China, India, and South Korea.

He mentioned, “China has reopened, and the Indian market has also developed since 2022.”

Additionally, the impact of social media sharing and the influence of major travel groups have helped promote Vietnam’s fame on the international stage. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Google advertising channels, and other online channels have been effective in rapidly promoting the image of Vietnam worldwide.

Vietnam has also improved its visa policy to boost tourism

Recently, a new visa policy for foreign tourists visiting Vietnam has been approved. Under this policy, visitors from certain countries will see their visa-free stay duration tripled from 15 to 45 days.

Moreover, tourists from eligible countries will be able to apply for an electronic visa to Vietnam, allowing them to stay for up to 90 days with multiple entries.

These visa changes will come into effect on August 15.

Gary Bowerman, a travel analyst based in Kuala Lumpur, believes that the visa policy changes will help Vietnam boost its tourism sector. He stated to DW, “The number of tourists is increasing, and in the coming six months, it will undoubtedly continue to rise, especially now that the Chinese market has returned.”

Bowerman added that one of Vietnam’s attractions is that it offers both tourism and business opportunities. He said, “Vietnam has a lot to offer for exploration. It is a country where people want to invest alongside tourism. Besides Thailand, Vietnam is considered the next hot spot for tourism in Southeast Asia.”

International tourist arrivals to Vietnam in July reach highest since the pandemic

Advertisements

Vietnam welcomed over 1 million international tourists in July, the highest number for the tourism industry since the Covid-19 pandemic. In total, during the first seven months, there were nearly 6.6 million international arrivals.

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in July 2023, Vietnam received 1,038.6 million international tourists, an increase of 6.5% compared to the previous month. Compared to the same period in 2022, international arrivals to Vietnam surged by 194.6%.

This marks the first month in 2023 and post-Covid-19 pandemic where the tourism industry surpassed 1 million international visitors.

During the first seven months, the total number of international tourists reached nearly 6.6 million, a remarkable growth of 592.8% compared to the same period last year, equivalent to 83% of the 2023 annual target.

Among the continents, Europe experienced the strongest growth with a 27% increase compared to June 2023.

Notably, several markets contributed significantly to the growth, including the United Kingdom at 14.5%, France at 35.9%, and Germany at 27.3%. Additionally, Norway saw a remarkable increase of 250.8%, Belgium with 154%, Denmark with 152%, the Netherlands with 44.6%, and Spain with almost 53%.

Top 10 markets sending customers in the first 7 months of 2023 (thousand turns) (Source: General Statistics Office).

In July, many of Vietnam’s top tourist markets showed positive growth compared to the previous month: South Korea increased by 6%, China by 14%, the United States by 7%, Taiwan by 31.3%, Japan by 15%, and Australia by 34.3%.

However, some nearby Southeast Asian markets experienced a decline, with Thailand dropping by 19.1%, Malaysia by 24.5%, and Cambodia by 9.8%.

In terms of market scale, South Korea remained the largest source of tourists during the first seven months of 2023, sending nearly 1.9 million visitors (accounting for nearly 1/3 of the total). China ranked second with 738,000 visitors, and the United States came third with 445,000 visitors.

Among the top 10 markets, Northeast Asia accounted for 4 markets: South Korea (1.888 million visitors), China (738,000 visitors), Taiwan – China (415,000 visitors), and Japan (284,000 visitors).

Southeast Asia contributed three markets: Thailand (290,000 visitors), Malaysia (262,000 visitors), and Cambodia (225,000 visitors). Australia ranked 9th, and India ranked 10th.

In Europe, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany were the largest source markets. The Russian market also showed signs of recovery, with nearly 70,000 visitors during the first seven months.

Achieving 83% of the annual international tourist target within the first seven months suggests that the tourism industry is likely to reach its goal soon.

Regarding domestic tourists, in July 2023, Vietnam recorded 12.5 million trips, of which 8.3 million were overnight stays. The total number of domestic tourists during the first seven months was 76.5 million trips. The estimated total revenue from tourism for the first seven months reached 416.6 trillion VND.

Fukushima (Japan) a few weeks before the time of the radioactive discharge

Advertisements

Local residents are expressing concern over the current situation.

In Japan, the marine tourism industry is at its peak during the bathing season. However, in Fukushima Prefecture, this summer may be the last one for a while to come. The usual business season may be disrupted for an extended period.

The residents of Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, are experiencing a period of great stress. They are concerned that the release of radioactive waste, 12 years after the Fukushima nuclear power plant disaster, may have negative impacts on their daily lives once again.

Yukinaga Suzuki, a motel owner in Fukushima Prefecture, expressed his concern that any issues with the sea could negatively impact his business.

Many locals in Japan are feeling confused with the lack of announcement from the government regarding the specific date and time of the radioactive discharge. Tourism business owners like Mr. Suzuki have suggested postponing the radioactive discharge plan until after the bathing season, that is, after mid-August.

According to Mr. Yukinaga Suzuki, during the hot summer months, it is common for people to visit the beach. However, the release of wastewater during this time is not only ill-timed but also potentially harmful.

The Japanese government, along with the operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, has been managing residual wastewater since 2011 and plans to safely discharge it into the sea this summer. According to Japanese authorities, the amount of treated wastewater meets both national and international safety standards.

The International Atomic Energy Agency has expressed its support for Japan’s transparency and reliability in its discharge planning. They have concluded that Japan’s chosen method meets international standards.
