Vietnam Airlines, the national flag carrier of Vietnam, is honored to host the International Air Transport Association (IATA) World Conference on Safety and Aviation Operations from September 19th to 21st, 2023, in Hanoi.

Aviation safety is one of the crucial areas that IATA focuses on and organizes annually through separate events. This year, the IATA World Conference on Safety and Aviation Operations 2023, with the theme “Leadership in Action: Advancing Safety and Efficiency,” will be the first comprehensive event organized by IATA addressing aviation safety as a whole, bringing together over 800 invitees representing leadership from airlines and international aviation organizations worldwide.

Notably, the conference takes place at a time when ensuring absolute safety is of utmost importance, as airlines mobilize all resources to resume operations and recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to Mr. Le Hong Ha, the CEO of Vietnam Airlines, safety is the top priority in the aviation industry and the core foundation in all activities of Vietnam Airlines. As an official member of IATA, Vietnam Airlines is honored to host this event, which will affirm its capability and influence, as well as the status of the national airline and Vietnam’s aviation industry in the global aviation market.

“Tourism is the key to driving strong economic development, with significant contributions from the aviation industry, directly supporting economic recovery, trade, cultural exchange, etc. among nations. This conference is an opportunity for industry leaders and aviation authorities to propose solutions to safety, operations, and infrastructure-related issues, thereby enhancing global aviation safety,” Mr. Ha expressed his expectations.

Mr. Willie Walsh, the Director-General of IATA, stated that the 2023 World Conference on Safety and Aviation Operations in Hanoi will gather a community of experts in global aviation safety on an international scale. As the host airline, Vietnam Airlines is demonstrating a strong commitment to sharing and enhancing knowledge about aviation safety.

As an official IATA member since 2006, Vietnam Airlines has successfully renewed the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) Safety Certification for the 10th consecutive time. The airline ensures that all system operations fully comply with IOSA standards based on four core objectives: ensuring program reliability for safety and quality, standardizing evaluation processes, ensuring continuous adherence to IOSA standards, and focusing on implementation.

Participating in the 2023 World Conference on Safety and Aviation Operations as the host provides Vietnam Airlines with an opportunity to emphasize and raise awareness about the particular significance of ensuring safety in aviation operations. It is also a special occasion for Vietnam Airlines to showcase the beauty of the country, thereby promoting the expansion of flight networks and connections across various fields and industries, such as economics, politics, culture, and tourism, between Vietnam and the world.

Ex-FTX COO Constance Wang Joins Crypto Fund Sino Global

Advertisements

Matthew Graham, Sino Global’s founder and CEO, was a close associate of Sam Bankman-Fried during FTX’s rise.

Constance Wang, described as Sam Bankman-Fried’s “right hand” in his fundraising drive, has joined crypto fund Sino Global Capital as its head of gaming, according to a report from Bloomberg which was confirmed by the fund’s founder and CEO Matthew Graham.

Wang joined FTX in 2019, and had previously worked as an analyst at Credit Suisse as well as a business development lead at Huobi after graduating from the National University of Singapore in 2015. She reportedly lived in Bankman-Fried’s luxury penthouse in the Bahamas, where the occupants were reportedly engaged in romantic relationships.

Graham is also a former close confidant of Bankman-Fried, and Sino Global had deep ties to FTX beyond just an equity investment.

While Wang helped run Bankman-Fried’s crypto empire, and has been subpoenaed by FTX’s creditors, she has not been accused of any wrongdoing or named in a suit with regard to the collapse of FTX or Alameda.

Stride Blockchain Will Move to ATOM-Powered Security Model

Advertisements

Stride’s native token STRD trades 0.7% higher as the transition is expected to beef up the liquid staking protocol’s security by several thousand percent.

Stride, the Cosmos-based liquid staking protocol, is scheduled to transition to Cosmos’ interchain security (ICS) system powered by ATOM tokens from the existing stride (STRD) token model.

“The transition will likely happen on Wednesday between 17:00 UTC and 21:30 UTC at block height 4616678,” Stride’s contributor Ian Unsworth told CoinDesk.

“While Stride has $35 million plus in total value locked, it only has $19 million of economic security via bonded network tokens. Following the ICS transition, block production/security will be passed to the ATOM validator set, providing roughly a 11,935.2% increase on the economic security of the network,” Unsworth added.

Per the official blog, the shift to ICS will boost Stride’s economic security from roughly $25 million to $2.3 billion, making the liquid staking protocol more resilient to hacks.

Cosmos’ interchain security leases ATOM-backed validators to consumer chains, allowing them to share Cosmos’ security using ATOMS instead of their native tokens. Cosmos Hub, a blockchain intermediary among all independent blockchains created within the Cosmos network, runs a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism that involves ATOM tokens.

It means that post-transition, Stride will be secured by staked ATOM instead of STRD tokens and Cosmos’ validator set will take over block production from the existing Stride validator set. Stride will essentially become a consumer chain, allowing Hub’s validator to participate in its consensus. STRD will continue to have utility, generating staking rewards. At press time, the market capitalization of STRD tokens was $86.7 million, while ATOM boasted a market value of $2.73 billion, per data source Coingecko.

The transition will also impact STRD’s tokenomics, given stakers have decided to reduce STRD distributed as staking rewards by 50%. Further, 15% of the STRD staking rewards will be shared with Cosmos Hub.

“STRD has a hard cap of 100 million tokens. According to the original tokenomics, in the first year, 2,608,200 STRD is emitted as staking rewards. As part of Stride’s transition to ICS, that figure will be reduced by half, to 1,304,100 STRD annualized. This reduction will be implemented in a preparatory chain upgrade prior to the transition to ICS,” the official blog said.

The DNA of Great Leaders: What it Takes to Thrive in Business

Advertisements

What makes a good leader? In recent years the business world has gone through some major, yet significant changes. The old leadership model based on toughness and discipline has become almost completely ineffective. Today, a manager has to have a personality with a high level of social competency if they want their staff to operate effectively and perform productively.

Being a leader is not an easy task, and it takes more than simply hard effort to create a successful, recognized leader. The great leader is distinguished from others by a few traits that enable them to conduct everyday operations with a distinct vision and drive.

Good leaders are aware of their personalities, they communicate effectively, delegate work, promote strategic thinking, and most importantly motivate their team to perform at their best through their role model function. In this article, we explore the context of the DNA or key characteristics that distinguish remarkable leaders as well as the qualities that enable them to overcome obstacles, drive success and make a lasting impact.

Vision and Purpose

The number one characteristic every good leader has in their DNA is leadership vision. Leadership vision highlights the actions which provide investors with a sense of the company’s path, by ensuring the long-term goals. In other words, true leaders must have a clear vision and must be able to pass the same vision clearly to their team.

Knowing what the vision of the company is, employees will be inspired and motivated to work together towards attaining the goals, will bestow referent power upon the leader, and create a strong connection that helps the business grow.

High Emotional Intelligence

In order to make a successful leader, an individual should have strong social skills or so-called business emotional intelligence. It entails managing interpersonal connections as well as controlling and expressing one’s emotions. According to unwritten rules, a  good leader inspires and guides instead of giving orders. This implies that in order for coworkers to feel comfortable around and be open with their leader, a leader must make the first step and show empathy.

This means that leaders must be able to consider teammates’ feelings, be mindful of the impact of their words and actions, consider different scenarios and their emotional effects on employees, respond to conflicts and hard times instead of reacting, etc.  All of these steps will help leaders foster a culture of trust, loyalty, and belonging among their teams, which will increase worker engagement and productivity.

Good Communication Skills

All good intentions and ideas are useless if they cannot be conveyed. Through communication tailored to their counterparts, in which they always remain authentic and honest, all leaders ensure that they are properly understood.

For this to succeed, they need to understand their team’s network of relationships and be able to use them for everyone’s benefit. In this way, a leader will ensure an efficient, positive working atmosphere and good relationships, both inside and outside the team.

Self-confidence and Sense of Responsibility

Only when a person shows self-confidence, there is a possibility that others will trust them, and this applies in both leadership and life. Energy, tenacity, and the ability to lead are important. They are meant to show others that your way of getting the project done is also the most promising one.

Self-organization is one of the central competencies all leaders should have.

In addition to this, all leaders must be able to take responsibility for their teams’ performance. The leader has to achieve trust by not finger-pointing to others, but by correcting a mistake as quickly as possible while learning from that mistake.

Decisiveness

A normal employee has limited authority when it comes to professional decisions, the manager, on the other hand, has to make decisions every day that determine the success or failure of the company. Some decisions are not simple, especially when it comes to disciplinary measures or dismissals.

A leader must be able to make such decisions, while being as objective as possible in certain moments and must base their decisions on facts. They must be able to relate very different parameters and see them in their contexts. Only then will a true leader be able to make well-thought-out and justifiable decisions even in very complex situations.

Risk-taker

The business environment is faced with pace and companies must take risks in order to remain competitive or expand in the market. A good leader is characterized by the fact that he does not shy away from risks. A leader is prepared to accept failure for a promising innovation. A leader acts according to the conviction that failure should always be taken into account when taking the risk of an innovation. If things go wrong, a strong leader can also own up to mistakes made and take responsibility for them, as it is explained earlier.

The DNA of a good leader is certainly a complex one, which is why only some can develop into this position. Good managers are not born overnight, it takes time, patience, practice, and a whole load of different experiences to become one. If you are empathetic, have good communication skills, and rely on your skills, you are already halfway to becoming a good leader.

The Hanoi People’s Committee agrees to classify the Covid-19 pandemic as a force majeure event, affecting projects from January 23, 2020, to October 11, 2021, a total of 21 months, excluding the time for projects that have already been extended for 24 months according to the law.

The People’s Committee of Hanoi has issued a document regarding the application of the law in handling cases where the Hanoi People’s Committee has decided to extend land use for 24 months but the land has not been put into use due to the force majeure circumstances caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, as stipulated by the Land Law.

Accordingly, the People’s Committee of Hanoi has agreed to classify the Covid-19 pandemic as a force majeure case, with its impact period starting from January 23, 2020 (the date of the Covid-19 outbreak announcement according to Decision No. 447 of the Prime Minister) until October 11, 2021 (the date the Government issued Resolution No. 128 temporarily regulating the adaptation of Covid-19 safety, flexibility, and effective control), a total of 21 months. This period does not include the extension periods granted to projects for 24 months as stipulated in Clause 1, Article 64 of the Land Law 2013.

Hanoi assigned the Department of Natural Resources and Environment (DNRE) to take the lead, in collaboration with relevant departments and agencies, to determine the specific duration of the impact caused by the Covid-19 pandemic as a force majeure case for each project based on the provisions of the law and guiding documents.

“On the basis of determining the impact duration of the Covid-19 pandemic for each project, the DNRE will synthesize, report, and propose to the People’s Committee of Hanoi for consideration and issuance of decisions to extend the deadline due to force majeure reasons for each project,” the document stated.

The city also instructed the Tax Department to review the financial obligations that arose during the extended period (if any) for each project. In case of difficulties or obstacles, proactive requests should be made to the Ministry of Finance and the General Department of Taxation for guidance on proper implementation according to legal provisions.

The starting point for calculating the extended period due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic (as a force majeure case) is the date when the People’s Committee of Hanoi signs the decision to apply it to each project (similar to the case of a 24-month land use extension according to regulations).

“For projects that have reached the extended deadline but the investor has not put the land into use, the People’s Committees of districts, towns, and townships shall report to the People’s Committee of Hanoi (through the DNRE) to prepare files and submit them to the People’s Committee of Hanoi to decide on land revocation in accordance with the provisions of the Land Law,” emphasized the People’s Committee of Hanoi.

EuroCham proposes Prime Minister waive visas for tourists from 27 EU countries

On July 17th, the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) sent a letter to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh proposing an expansion of the visa exemption list for the 27 European Union (EU) member states.

Currently, the visa exemption list only includes seven EU member states: Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland. With the aim of promoting trade and investment opportunities, EuroCham Vietnam emphasizes the importance of expanding the visa exemption list to include all 27 EU member states.

“This visa waiver expansion will bring a large number of visitors from the EU market with over 500 million people. By removing barriers for international visitors who have high spending potential when traveling, we are confident that we will open up great opportunities for the tourism industry in Vietnam after the challenging years we have had,” said Mr. Gabor Fluit, Chairman of EuroCham Vietnam.

EuroCham emphasized that the extension of the visa-free list to the EU’s 27 member states is to stimulate investment, tourism, growth…

With a large number of tourists, extended stays, and significant purchasing power, European tourists are truly a potential customer group. European tourists tend to stay longer, usually for two weeks or more. This period allows them to make significant contributions to the economy and explore business prospects during their stay. “All of this contributes to adding value to their tours,” added the Chairman of EuroCham.

Furthermore, EuroCham acknowledges and appreciates the recent efforts by the Vietnamese government to simplify the visa system, including extending the validity of electronic visas to 90 days, allowing multiple entries starting from August 15th, and extending the temporary residence duration to 45 days for citizens of visa-exempted countries in Vietnam.

According to EuroCham representatives, the letter sent to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has received significant support from European countries, as 18 ambassadors of EU member states in Vietnam and the heads of European business associations, such as the Belgian-Luxembourg Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, the Central and Eastern European Business Association in Vietnam, the Portugal-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Netherlands Business Association in Vietnam, the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Vietnam, the German Business Association, the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, the Northern European Business Association in Vietnam, and the Spanish Business Association in Vietnam, have all signed the letter.

Moreover, Vietnam is proud to maintain its position as one of the top five investment destinations for more than one-third of businesses, further affirming Vietnam’s sustainable attractiveness and reputation. Continuous reduction of import tariffs facilitated by the European Union-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), combined with efforts to address administrative procedures, as highlighted in the Business Climate Index (BCI) survey, will enhance Vietnam’s investment prospects over time.

Therefore, the Chairman of EuroCham emphasizes, “Improvements in visa exemptions, along with the introduction of the Michelin Guide and the recognition by Lonely Planet of Vietnam’s North-South railway as one of the world’s most incredible rail journeys, can be the answer to increasing the contribution of the tourism industry to Vietnam’s GDP. Combining these initiatives with the growing recognition and interest in Vietnam globally represents significant potential for driving economic growth and making Vietnam a top destination in the global tourism context.”
