Next Bitcoin Halving Event Could Be a Stress Test for Miners: JPMorgan

The next halving will see a reduction in miners’ revenues and an increase in bitcoin production costs at the same time, the report said.

The bitcoin (BTC) hashrate continues to hit new all-time highs as competition between miners escalates ahead of the next halving event, expected second-quarter 2024, JPMorgan (JPM) said in a research report Thursday.

The halving will reduce issuance rewards to 3.125 BTC from 6.25 BTC, “implying a reduction in miners’ revenues, effectively increasing bitcoin’s production cost at the same time,” the report said.

“While bitcoin halving is seen as having a positive effect on the bitcoin price given the production cost acted historically as a floor, it poses a challenge for bitcoin miners,” analysts led by Nikolaos Panigirtzoglou wrote.

Hashrate refers to the total combined computational power used to mine and process transactions on a proof-of-work blockchain such as Bitcoin.

JPMorgan says miners with lower electricity costs will find it easier to survive, while miners with higher power costs may struggle after halving occurs.

The bank estimates that a 1 cent per kilowatt hour (kWh) change in the electricity cost could cause a $4,300 change in the bitcoin production cost. After halving, this sensitivity would double to $8,600, thereby “increasing the vulnerability of higher cost producers.”

The steep rise in the hashrate implies increasing competition among bitcoin miners with more mining rigs being deployed, the note said.

It is unlikely the hashrate will continue to rise at the same pace following the halving event “without any sustained rise in the bitcoin price above its production cost or a large increase in transaction fees that could offset the reduction in issuance rewards,” the report added.

The amount for this original 4GB iPhone is much higher than previous factory sealed and auctioned iPhone models. This incident caused 25 vehicle owners to report that they were slightly injured due to the poor welding door lever support system. One case even suffered property damage.

For organizations and businesses, Hue province has piloted the use of chip-reading devices on citizen identification cards at notary offices and mobile verification devices to authenticate customer identities at pawnshop service establishments.

This method has helped these establishments obtain information about customers’ identification cards, ensuring transparency and accuracy in notarization, certification, and pawn contracts.

Especially in June, Hue province also piloted accommodation management software (ASM software) at 15 accommodation facilities and 3 medical facilities.

To date, the software has updated over 10,000 check-in information for guests, helping establishments monitor and manage residents, reducing time and cost for document storage. The application of accommodation management software has contributed to improving the state’s management efficiency in terms of security, residence, tourism, and healthcare in the area.

Two connecting roads to Long Thanh Airport have been started construction, with a total length of nearly 8 km, a total investment capital of 2,630 billion Vietnamese dong, and an estimated completion time of 885 days.

On the morning of July 14th, the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) held a groundbreaking ceremony for two roads (T1, T2) connecting Long Thanh International Airport (Long Thanh Airport).

Long Thanh Airport is a project invested by ACV, with a scale of 5,000 hectares, which started construction in early 2021. The project is expected to be put into operation in 2025. According to the letter, the diving service activities in Nha Trang Bay were approved by the Prime Minister for pilot implementation in official letter 1505 dated October 30, 2020.

Specifically, according to the report from the Ministry of Transport, the force majeure factor of the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the diving service activities. To have more time to evaluate the practical operation of this service and improve the relevant legal regulations, the Government has agreed to extend the pilot period of diving service operations based on the recommendations of the Ministry of Transport and the opinions of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa province until the end of July 2024.

The Government has assigned the Ministry of Transport to lead and coordinate with the Ministry of Defense, the People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa province, and relevant agencies to organize the management of diving service activities in Nha Trang Bay, ensuring compliance with the current regulations on security, defense, and related legal provisions. Hanoi: Outbreaks of dengue fever

Nearly 900 cases were reported in Hanoi alone, with 48 outbreaks primarily in suburban regions such as Thach That, Thuong Tin, and Phu Xuyen.
