Vietnam records three new coronavirus infections Monday evening, two of whom are in Hanoi’s hotspot Ha Loi Village and one imported, taking the country’s total to 265.
The country’s number of active cases now stays at 120 after 145 patients have been discharged from hospitals.
The two new patients take Ha Loi Village’s tally to 12, all of whom are still under treatment, the Health Ministry said.
“Case 263rd” is a 45-year-old resident of Me Linh District’s Ha Loi Village. On March 25, she showed symtoms of malaria, developed a sore throat, dry cough and fatigue. Her samples were taken on April 11 which shows positive results on Monday. She’s being treated at the second branch of National Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Hanoi.
“Case 264th”, a 24-year-old resident of Ha Loi, had her samples taken on Saturday which showed she is positive for the coronavirus on Monday. She has been enrolled in the same hospital as “Patient 263”.
“Case 265th“, 26, is a resident of the central province of Ha Tinh. On March 23, he arrived in Vietnam from Thailand via the Cha Lo border gate in the central province of Quang Binh.
He was immediately quarantined in a facility in Thach Ha District, Ha Tinh Province. On April 8, his samples were taken and the results show signs he might be infected. On Sunday, he was tested again and the result came out positive. The man is being treated at Cau Treo Hospital in Ha Tinh.
Ha Loi Village, with nearly 11,000 people, was placed under a lockdown April 7 after three villagers contracted the virus.
The village has emerged as the second biggest hotspot in the capital city after Bach Mai Hospital. The hospital had two-week lockdown lifted Sunday.
Hanoi leads the nation in the number of Covid-19 cases with 127 recorded so far, of whom 58 have been discharged. Ho Chi Minh City takes the second spot with 54 cases and 40 discharges.
Globally, the Covid-19’s death toll has jumped to more than 114,000 as it attacked 210 countries and territories.
