Pham Thi Khanh and Pham Thi Dieu Ly are representing Vietnam in the women’s doubles event at the 2026 BWF World Championships, kicking off their Round 1 campaign on August 17.
Ranked world No. 91 in the women’s doubles standings, the Vietnamese pair faced Canada’s Eyota Kwan and Johnna Rymes. Despite holding a lower ranking of No. 159, the Canadian duo brought seasoned tournament experience, making it a grueling contest for the Vietnamese shuttlers. Right from the opening game, both sides traded blow for blow in an intense, back-and-forth chase. Tied at 8–8, Dieu Ly and Pham Thi Khanh found an opening to break away, forcing errors from their opponents with tight, unpredictable shot-making to close out the first game 21–15.
The Canadian veterans shifted momentum in the second game, using their experience to dictate the tempo. Kwan and Rymes dominated from the opening exchanges, leveling the match with a commanding 21–10 win.
Pushed to a decisive third game, the Vietnamese pair quickly regrouped. Regaining their rhythm and synchronization, they swept the final game with a dominant 21–6 margin to secure a 2–1 overall victory.
The win earns Pham Thi Khanh and Pham Thi Dieu Ly a spot in Round 2 of the 2026 World Championships, where a formidable test awaits against the world No. 1 Chinese pairing of Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning.
Earlier in the tournament, Vietnam’s men’s doubles pair Nguyen Dinh Hoang and Tran Dinh Manh fell short of an upset against Malaysia’s world No. 19 duo Junaidi Arif and Yap Roy King, losing in straight games 9–21, 13–21. Later on August 17, male shuttler Le Duc Phat will also take to the court for Vietnam, facing Finland’s Joakim Oldorff in the men’s singles event.
