Vietnam on Wednesday evening confirmed six new Covid-19 cases, all of them living in Hanoi, bringing the national tally to 218.
Three of them are linked to Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi that has been implicated as an outbreak hotspot, and the rest returned from abroad and had been quarantined upon arrival.
“Patient 213” is a 40-year old woman in Thanh Oai District who recently had visited Bach Mai Hospital for a checkup. She isolated herself at home after learning about the outbreak in the hospital. As health officials collected samples of all who visited the hospital recently, she tested positive.
“Patient 214” is a 45-year old woman who works for Truong Sinh Company, the food and logistic services provider to the Bach Mai Hospital.
“Patient 215” is a 31-year old man who also works for Truong Sinh. So far 26 Truong Sinh staff have contracted the virus.
“Patient 216” is a 48-year old woman returning from Germany on flight SU290 of Aeroflot, which landed in Hanoi on March 23.
“Patient 217” is a 25-year old woman in the central Nghe An Province. She flew from Japan to Hanoi on March 25 on flight NH857 of Nippon Airways.
“Patient 218” is a 43-year old female in the northern Thai Nguyen Province. She landed in Hanoi on flight SU290 of Aeroflot on March 25.
All patients are being treated at the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Hanoi’s Dong Anh District. With the new cases, the total confirmed Covid-19 patients on Wednesday rose to 11.
Of the 218 Covid-19 patients confirmed in Vietnam so far, 63 have been discharged from hospitals. The Covid-19 pandemic has spread to 203 countries and territories, claiming over 42,000 lives.
