On July 8, Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs addressed the immense tragedy striking Venezuela. A violent double earthquake devastated the nation on June 24. In response, Vietnam’s Party, State, and people decided to grant $300,000 in emergency humanitarian aid. This funding will help the Venezuelan government and its people recover. It aims to stabilize lives in the affected regions quickly.
This emergency aid stems from a long-standing tradition of solidarity and friendship. Both nations share a deep spirit of mutual support.
Beyond financial aid, Vietnam deployed a specialized team of over 120 personnel. They traveled directly to the disaster zone to join frantic search and rescue efforts.
To honor their outstanding contributions, Venezuelan government representatives awarded the “Hero of Venezuela” Medal to the Vietnamese team on July 6. Earlier, on July 3, Interim President Delcy Rodríguez visited the Vietnamese base camp. Deeply moved by Vietnam’s timely support, she personally thanked the officers and soldiers. She also awarded the Order of Merit for Service to the team’s K9 rescue unit.
As previously reported by Tuoi Tre, the double earthquake struck with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 on the evening of June 24. The massive tremors shook the capital city of Caracas and neighboring La Guaira state. La Guaira suffered the most catastrophic loss of life and property.
Latest data from the Venezuelan government on July 6 reveals a grim reality. The earthquake death toll has climbed to 3,535 people, an increase of 193 from the previous day. Injuries reached 16,770, while rescue teams have successfully pulled 6,462 survivors from the rubble.
