Vietnam’s Covid-19 patient tally hits 841, with 31 new cases

Twenty nine new Covid-19 cases, all linked to Da Nang City, raised Vietnam’s total count to 841 and active cases to 435, the Health Ministry confirmed Sunday evening.

With two recorded in the morning, Sunday’s tally of new Covid-19 cases reached 31.

Most the new cases linked to Da Nang outbreak, said the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.

Vietnam now has 435 active Covid-19 patients after 395 recoveries. Since July 25, the country has recorded 355 domestic cases in 13 localities, all linked to current epicenter Da Nang, a top tourist attraction. Eleven patients have died since, mostly elderly with multiple previous comorbidities.

According to VNExpress, a 55-year old woman in Da Nang is the country’s 11th Covid-19 patient who died from the disease, the Healthy Ministry said Sunday afternoon.

Among the previous ten Covid-19 deaths, ten were in Da Nang, now the country’s outbreak epicenter, and two in the neighboring province of Quang Nam.

Vietnam’s Covid-19 fatalities so far have fallen in the 53-86 age group and all of them had been suffering from long-standing comorbidities including heart failure, cancer, hypertension and diabetes

There are 178,000 people isolated at present – over 27,000 in quarantine facilities, 5,000 in hospitals and the rest at home.

The reported Covid-19 death toll has reached 722,000 worldwide.
