Unveiling Rare Archives and Untold Perspectives
Ho Chi Minh: Diplomatic Acumen in 1946 depicts the 99-day diplomatic mission to France undertaken by President Ho Chi Minh as the Head of State of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.
The journey took place when the newly founded republic was barely six months old and facing immense headwinds. Domestically, the young revolutionary government had to navigate ongoing resistance in Southern Vietnam and the looming threat of nationwide conflict. Leaving the country for an extended period under such precarious conditions was a bold, consequential decision.
The film explores key questions surrounding the historic trip: Why did President Ho Chi Minh travel to France? Why did he stay for such a long period? Whom did he meet during those 99 days, what diplomacy did he conduct, and how did this mission impact Vietnam’s quest for sovereignty?
According to VTV, the documentary draws on rare declassified documents, physical artifacts, and fresh historical angles. These original records help bring diplomatic events from 80 years ago closer to modern global audiences.
The production also reexamines President Ho Chi Minh’s steadfast commitment to dialogue, peaceful negotiation, and the strategic preservation of vital national interests. Eight decades later, the mission offers enduring diplomatic lessons: staying resolute on core objectives, maintaining tactical flexibility, and prioritizing peaceful dialogue across ideological divides.

National Day Lineup: Art Showcases and Commemorative Broadcasts
To mark the September 2 celebrations, the artistic program Independence Star 2026, themed Star of Independence – Aspiration for a Thriving Vietnam, will take place on the evening of August 30 at the Ho Guom Opera House in Hanoi, with a live broadcast on VTV1.
The event honors previous generations who dedicated their lives to national independence, featuring veteran composer Doan Nho and renowned vocalists including Cam Van, Dang Duong, Hoang Bach, Nguyen Ngoc Anh, Vo Ha Tram, Oplus, and Pham Anh Duy.

On September 2, VTV3 will air Melody of Pride under the theme Melody of the Fatherland at 8:00 PM. The program blends patriotic musical performances by artists such as Tung Duong, Ta Quang Thang, and Hoang Bach with personal reflections on Vietnam’s journey.
Highlights include composer Doan Nho sharing his memories of the Autumn 1945 revolution, and 76-year-old war veteran Tran Van Thanh recounting his 1,300-kilometer motorcycle ride from Vinh to Ho Chi Minh City in April 2025 to witness a peaceful, modern Vietnam.

At 8:35 PM on September 2, VTV1 will broadcast Era of Ascent, focusing on the theme Building Vietnam’s Digital Fortress. The program revisits the historic Declaration of Independence read by President Ho Chi Minh at Ba Dinh Square on September 2, 1945, before examining modern strategies to safeguard national digital sovereignty.
VTV channels will also broadcast numerous specialized documentaries throughout the holiday, including The Great Founding Declaration, Faith and Aspiration, Ho Chi Minh – His Name is a Victory Song, and He is Ho Chi Minh.
