According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, in the first nine months of 2022, Vietnam’s total newly and adjusted overseas investment capital reached nearly 398.3 million USD, equaling 69.6% of the same period in 2021.
Of these, 80 projects were granted new investment registration certificates, with a total registered capital of over 347.3 million USD, up 2.31 times over the same period. The Ministry of Planning and Investment said that the newly issued overseas investment capital in the first nine months of 2022 increased sharply compared to the same period last year because there were 5 new large projects that were granted investment registration certificates, which are projects of JSC Solutions. Vines energy solutions to the United States, Canada, France, Germany, and the Netherlands with a total investment capital of more than 34.68 million USD per project.
There were 15 times capital adjustment projects with total additional investment capital of over 50.9 million USD, equaling 12% over the same period. According to the Ministry of Planning and Investment, adjusted investment capital decreased sharply, in the first nine months of 2021, and there were many large projects adjusted to increase capital: Vingroup’s project in the United States was adjusted to increase by 300 million USD; Indochina Rubber Development and Investment Co., Ltd. project in Cambodia increased by 76 million USD and a project of Vinfast in Germany increased by 32 million USD.
Particularly, state-owned enterprises had 2 times capital adjustment projects, with a total additional investment capital of 10.75 million USD, accounting for a small proportion (2.7%) of the total investment capital of Vietnam abroad out for 9 months.
In terms of countries and territories, data from the Ministry of Planning and Investment shows that there are 24 countries and territories receiving investment from Vietnam in the first 9 months of 2022. Leading is Laos with 4 projects. new investment and 3 capital adjustment projects, total registered investment capital reached 66.42 million USD, accounting for 16.7% of total investment capital. Singapore ranked second with a total investment capital of nearly 41.5 million USD, accounting for nearly 10.4% of total investment capital. In terms of investment sectors, Vietnamese investors have invested abroad in 13 industries. The processing and manufacturing industry leads the way with 11 new investment projects, and the total investment capital is over 291.6 million USD, accounting for 55.2% of total investment capital. Banking, finance, and insurance activities ranked second with 4 times capital adjustment projects, and total investment capital was over 35.3 million USD, accounting for 8.9%. Accumulated to September 20, 2022, Vietnam has 1,584 valid overseas investment projects with a total investment capital of over 21.6 billion USD in Vietnam. There are 139 projects of state-owned enterprises, with a total investment capital of nearly 11.6 billion USD, accounting for 53.6% of the total investment capital of the country. Vietnam’s investment abroad focuses the most on the mining industry (32.2%); agriculture, forestry, and fishery (15.9%). The areas receiving the most investment from Vietnam are Laos (24.7%); Cambodia (13.6%); Venezuela (8.4%).
