At around 0:45 AM, a 24-berth sleeper bus with Hanoi license plates, traveling from Lao Cai Ward to Sa Pa, suddenly burst into flames upon reaching Tong Sanh Village, Coc San Commune.
The driver quickly pulled over to the roadside shoulder and woke the passengers. All 20 passengers escaped unharmed before the fire spread widely. Road Traffic Police Team No. 1 collaborated with Coc San Commune Police to direct traffic, facilitating access for firefighting and rescue forces to secure the scene.
After approximately 30 minutes, the fire was extinguished. The vehicle along with significant passenger luggage were completely destroyed by the flames. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
Earlier, on October 5, another passenger bus caught fire on Provincial Road 155 through Coc San Commune, causing no casualties.
National Highway 4D serves as the vital transport artery connecting Lao Cai with Sa Pa, featuring mountainous terrain with steep slopes and sharp curves. The stretch passing through Coc San Commune has previously witnessed serious traffic accidents and landslide-induced gridlock.
