British coronavirus patient in Hue recovered and discharged

The 49th coronavirus (COVID-19) patient in Vietnam – a 71-year-old British man – recovered successfully and left the Hue Central Hospital in Phong Dien District, Thua Thien-Hue Province on Tuesday morning.

Director of the hospital Pham Nhu Hiep said that the patient tested negative for coronavirus twice and his health was now stable.

“During treatment, the man did not have a fever nor cough or breathing difficulty,” Hiệp said, adding that the patient would still need to stay at the quarantine area in the Sun and Sea Resort for further follow-up health checks.

The 49th patient was the husband of the 30th patient who is still receiving treatment at the Huế Central Hospital, Hiệp said.

At present, the hospital was taking care of two foreign COVID-19 patients – the 30th and the 31st – and their health was improving, Hiệp said, adding that they could leave the hospital soon.

The 30th patient was on flight VN54 from London to Vietnam, arriving at Noi Bai International Airport early on March 2. The patient was quarantined on March 7 after being identified as taking the same flight as the first confirmed COVID-19 patient in Hà Nội and the 17th in Vietnam. The 17th case was announced a day earlier.

The 49th patient was quarantined on March 8 and confirmed as having COVID-19 on March 14.

Three days ago, the Hue Central Hospital also certified another COVID-19 patient had fully recovered. He is the 33rd patient – a 58-year-old British man on the same flight, VN54 from London to Vietnam, as the above patients.
