A Spanish travel blogger endured a horrifying ordeal when she and her husband were assaulted in India during their global journey.

Fernanda, 28, and her spouse Vicente, 63, were viciously attacked in Jharkhand state on March 1 while camping overnight on their way to the Nepal border.

The couple was in their tent when three men on two motorcycles approached, hurling stones and shouting. Vicente emerged from the tent to confront them, only to find one of the assailants concealing a dagger. As they attempted to defend themselves with tent stakes, four more men arrived, overwhelming them.

While four assailants restrained and assaulted Vicente, three others assaulted Fernanda, threatening them both with knives. After subjecting Fernanda to a brutal assault, the attackers stole their belongings.

In a video posted on social media, Fernanda, her face bruised from the assault, expressed her desire to spare others from such trauma.

Three suspects were apprehended on March 3, with authorities continuing to pursue others involved, aged between 20 and 30.

Despite the trauma, the couple continued their journey, receiving $12,000 in compensation from Indian authorities before proceeding to Kathmandu, Nepal, en route to Spain. Once Fernanda recuperates, they plan to resume their travels through Asia, concluding in New Zealand.

Representatives from Vietnam Railway Corporation, Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Committee, and Da Nang City People’s Committee have agreed on a plan to operate a tourist train service between the two localities on March 26.

Recently, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue Provincial People’s Committee, held discussions with representatives from Vietnam Railway Corporation regarding the deployment of the tourist train service from Hue to Da Nang, scheduled to commence on March 26.

Accordingly, the parties have agreed to develop services along the Hue – Da Nang route with a focus on differentiation, providing tourists with a unique travel experience and tourism services throughout the train journey and at the destination between the two locales, Hue and Da Nang, including Lang Co Bay. Besides its tourism purposes, the Hue – Da Nang railway line also contributes to ensuring transportation and connectivity between the two places for residents.

Mr. Minh stated that the implementation of these plans aims to foster close collaboration between Vietnam Railway Corporation, the Da Nang City government, Thua Thien Hue Province, as well as tourism and service enterprises in both provinces.

Regarding the plan to deploy the Hue – Da Nang train service proposed by the two provinces, Mr. Dang Sy Manh, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Railway Corporation, remarked that the proposed plan by the two provinces is “highly suitable” for families and individuals seeking experiential travel, enabling tourists to admire the mountainous and coastal landscapes.

“Both stations in Hue and Da Nang are located in the city center, catering to the high demand of domestic and international tourists traveling between the two destinations. This is an advantage of this railway line,” Mr. Manh stated during the meeting on March 1.

Shiba Inu Rings Greed Alarm as Bitcoin Eyes Record High

Open interest in SHIB futures has crossed above $100 million, hinting at speculative froth.

Speculative excess is building in the crypto market, suggesting caution to bitcoin (BTC) bulls as the leading cryptocurrency by market value looks to challenge record highs.

The notional open interest or the dollar value locked in the active perpetual futures contracts tied to meme cryptocurrency shiba inu (SHIB) has crossed $100 million for the first time since August 2023, according to CoinGlass. SHIB futures are sized at 1,000 SHIB per contract with up to 25 times leverage.

In the past seven days, SHIB’s market capitalization has surged over 130% to $13.44 million, beating the 22% rise in the CoinDesk 20 index. An increase in open interest alongside an uptick in market value represents an influx of new money into SHIB.

However, it’s a sign of speculative excess and an impending correction to the broader market.

Previous instances of an above-$100 million open interest in SHIB futures have marked interim/local bitcoin price tops.

SHIB is not the only one signaling speculative froth. Data tracked by 10X Research shows volumes in South Korea have averaged at or near $8 billion recently, up significantly from $1 billion per day observed before the bitcoin bull run gathered steam.

“There is a wave of retail activity occurring from altcoins to meme-coins,” Markus Thielen, founder of 10X Research, said, referring to the uptick in trading volume on Korean exchanges.

Thielen added that bitcoin could set a new all-time high above $69,000 this week as inflows into the U.S.-based spot ETFs continue to be significantly more than the number of BTC created per day. That has caused the supply-demand imbalance to grow to 1:10.

“Over-the-counter (OTC) trading desks are dealing with large institutional clients, and according to their aggregate inventory data, balances have decreased from nearly 10,000 Bitcoins in Q2 2023 to less than 2,000. This shows that institutions such as the Bitcoin ETF issuers, through their market makers, will have to purchase Bitcoins directly from exchanges. The supply/demand imbalance is 1:10 (daily mined vs. daily ETF demand),” Thielen noted.

Outflows from Grayscale’s spot ETF (GBTC) gathered pace late last week, with the fund losing $600 million on Thursday, its largest single-day redemption in over a month. Meanwhile, as per 10X Research, inflows into BlackRock’s IBIT cooled to $202 million on Friday after three consecutive days of $500-600 million.

Per Thielen, the slowdown is a temporary month-end phenomenon, and strong inflows could resume this week.

“We expect BlackRock inflows to resume this week. If Grayscale’s flows drop to less than $100m outflow, bitcoin will make a big move up,” Thielen noted.

Bitcoin changed hands at $63,300 at press time, representing a 2% gain on a 24-hour basis and a 22% rise in seven days.

Rabid dog attacked 13 students and 1 teacher in Quang Ninh

On March 3, 14 people, including 13 students and a teacher, at a school in Dam Ha district, Quang Ninh, after being attacked by a rabid dog, received a dose of an anti-rabies vaccine and were transferred to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) Quang Ninh for serum injection. All are currently stable and being monitored at home.

The incident occurred when a rabid dog entered the school on February 28, attacking many students and teachers. This dog was captured and after testing, the results returned positive for rabies virus.

Faced with the above situation, the locality quickly reviewed possible exposure cases related to the rabid dog.

The government also continues to expand the review area to all recent cases of dog bites. Currently, no additional cases have arisen.

On March 2, Quang Ninh CDC worked with the Dam Ha District People’s Committee to discuss solutions to treat and prevent rabies.

Professional agencies assess that there is still a potential risk of rabies in the dog population in Duc Yen commune as well as other communes in the Dam Ha district.

U.S. Judge Enters Default Ruling Against Ex-Coinbase Insider, Says Secondary Market Sales are Securities Transactions

In May 2023, the SEC settled charges with Ishan Wahi and Nikhil Wahi in what it has called the “first-ever insider trading case involving cryptocurrency markets.”

In an insider trading case involving Coinbase’s former product manager Ishan Wahi, his brother Nikhil Wahi, and their friend Sameer Ramani, a U.S. court ruled on March 1, that the trading of certain crypto assets on a secondary market, which Coinbase is, are securities transactions.

“The court’s analysis remains the same even to the extent Ramani traded tokens on the secondary market,” the ruling said. “… Each issuer continued to make such representation regarding the profitability of their tokens even as the tokens were traded on secondary markets. Thus, under Howey, all of the crypto assets that Ramani purchased and traded were investment contracts.”

The court took this critical position in a default judgment against Ramani. A default judgment is given when the defendant fails to respond to a court summons or does not appear in court.

“Ramani appears to have fled the country to avoid criminal prosecution for the actions alleged in this case,” the filing said.

In May 2023, the SEC settled charges with Ishan Wahi and Nikhil Wahi in what it has called the “first-ever insider trading case involving cryptocurrency markets.”

However, while this or some action against Ramani was expected, the judgment assumes extra significance because the crypto industry and Coinbase (COIN) have been arguing that cryptocurrencies are not securities and hence, do not fall under the SEC. The SEC Chair Gary Gensler has often argued that most cryptocurrencies fit the definition of securities and that crypto exchanges need to register with the SEC.

This is also not the first time a U.S. court has adjudicated whether sales of certain cryptocurrencies are unregistered securities, whether on secondary platforms like exchanges or not.

In July, Federal District Judge Analisa Torres ruled that while Ripple violated federal securities laws in selling XRP to institutional investors directly, it had not done so by making XRP available to retail customers through programmatic sales to exchanges.

However, in Dec. 2023, Judge Jed Rakoff disagreed with Judge Torres in the Terraform Labs case.

The court ruled to prohibit Ramani from future violations, a civil penalty of twice the amount of proceeds Ramani is calculated to have gained, which was a total of $1,635,204, and disgorgement of the identified proceeds amounting to $817,602. However, the court denied the SEC’s request to impose prejudgment interest.

From March 7th to 17th, 2024, international tourists traveling in groups to Ho Chi Minh City can experience wearing ao dai for free at the check-in locations on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street and Lam Son Park (District 1).

This is one of the activities within the framework of the 10th Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival in 2024, themed “I Love Vietnamese Ao Dai”. The festival this year takes place from March 7th to March 17th, 2024, organized by the Department of Tourism and the Ho Chi Minh City Women’s Union in coordination with various departments and agencies.

This is also the first time that the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival has activities such as free ao dai experience showrooms for group tourists and zero-cost ao dai booths for women’s union members and female workers in suburban areas.

Here, the organizers will also introduce OCOP products from the local area. After that, tourists can wear ao dai and move around for check-ins on Nguyen Hue pedestrian street, the area where the Tet Dragon mascot is located, and Lam Son Park.

Additionally, the program to give ao dai to women’s union members and female workers in suburban areas at zero-cost ao dai shops, industrial zones, and workers’ dormitories will continue until the end of March 2024.

Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, stated that this year’s Ao Dai Festival features many interactive activities with the community. Korea continues to waive visas for Vietnamese tourists to South Jeolla

The South Korean Ministry of Justice has allowed South Jeolla Province to extend the visa exemption period for group tourists from Southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, until March 2025.

Specifically, groups of over 5 people from Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia will continue to be granted visa-free entry at Muan International Airport in South Jeolla Province until March next year.

The visa exemption policy aimed at attracting tourists from these Southeast Asian countries has been implemented since March 2023 and has helped South Jeolla Province attract chartered flights from these markets.

Vietnamese tourists come to South Jeolla, a province in southwestern Korea, attracting visitors with its natural beauty and rich cuisine.

Currently, South Korea is implementing a 15-day visa exemption policy for group tourists from Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia to visit South Jeolla, Gwangju, Jeonbuk, and Jeju Island.

In a recent meeting with Mr. Park Jong Kyung, Minister-Counselor at the South Korean Embassy in Vietnam, regarding the enhancement of tourism cooperation between the two sides, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh proposed that the South Korean Embassy and the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) advise the South Korean government to facilitate visa policies for Vietnamese tourists, consider simplifying documents and requirements when submitting applications.

According to Minister-Counselor Park Jong Kyung, tourism cooperation between Vietnam and South Korea is being strongly promoted. In 2023, approximately 3.6 million Korean tourists were visiting Vietnam. Conversely, over 400,000 Vietnamese tourists were visiting South Korea.

The South Korean government has also set a record-high tourism revenue target of $24.5 billion for 2024. To achieve this goal, South Korea has waived electronic visa fees for group tourists and increased the direct tax refund limit at shopping points for tourists, starting from January 1, 2024.

Specifically, South Korea will expand the list of countries eligible for electronic visa exemption for groups to include Vietnam, the Philippines, and Indonesia. Previously, only Chinese tourists enjoyed this policy. The current visa application fee for Vietnamese tourists to South Korea is $30 per person.

Taiwan Airlines opens direct flights to Phu Quoc

Tigerair, the low-cost airline from Taiwan, will launch a new direct route between Taoyuan and Phu Quoc Island on April 2, as part of its ongoing efforts to expand into the Southeast Asian market.

In a statement, Tigerair announced that initially, there will be three round-trip flights between the two destinations each week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

Flight IT557 to Phu Quoc will depart at 14:40 from Taoyuan International Airport, and the return flight IT558 to Taoyuan will leave Phu Quoc International Airport at 18:25, according to Focus Taiwan.

To celebrate the new route, the airline said special fare deals will be announced starting from next Tuesday.

Phu Quoc is renowned for its beautiful beaches, resorts, as well as local specialties such as fish sauce, pepper farms, and pearl farms. Phu Quoc also has a policy allowing foreign visitors to enter visa-free for up to 30 days.

Phu Quoc is currently hosting various exciting activities to attract both domestic and international tourists. For example, the underwater art sports performance Jetski was officially introduced on February 27 at the Sunset Town Beach area, with a panoramic view of the iconic Honeymoon Bridge. The show will be performed 1-2 times daily, from 17:30 to 19:30, during Phu Quoc’s spectacular sunset.
