Vietnam reports ONE new imported Covid-19 case, bringing its total to 325

A woman on a repatriation flight from Russia is Vietnam’s latest Covid-19 case Sunday morning, bringing the tally of active cases to 58.

“Patient 325” is a 34-year-old woman from northern Ninh Binh Province. She returned from Russia to Vietnam on Vietnam Airlines flight VN0062, which landed on Van Don Airport in northern Quang Ninh Province on May 13.

She tested positive on May 21 after first testing negative upon her arrival. She’s currently being treated in the Hai Duong Town’s Hospital for Tropical Diseases in northern Hai Duong Province.

The woman was said to be infected with Covid-19 in Russia, but was announced recovered before she returned to Vietnam.

32 people on the VN0062 flight have been confirmed infected with Covid-19 to date, including 30 passengers and two crew members. They were all quarantined upon arrival.

The nation’s Covid-19 tally is at 325. Of these, 267 have recovered. There has been no Covid-19 death in Vietnam to date.

Of the total number of infections, 185 are imported and the rest caused by community transmission. The last community transmission was recorded on April 16.

Among the active cases, ten have tested negative at least once.

The country’s most seriously ill case, “Patient 91,” a 43-year-old British man, was temporarily taken off continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) on Saturday, though he’s still on life support.

The patient’s still in a critical condition as he was depending almost entirely on ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) and his lung infections have not been put under control yet, said Nguyen Tri Thuc, a doctor at the Cho Ray Hospital in HCMC, where the patient’s being treated.

CRRT is a technique that replaces the normal blood-filtering function of the kidneys, helping them heal and prevent further damages.

ECMO is a technique that pumps blood out of the body and to a heart-lung machine that removes carbon dioxide and sends oxygen-filled blood back.

The Covid-19 pandemic has affected 213 countries and territories, with more than 343,500 deaths reported.
