A monstrous fruit weighing over half a quintal was severed from its branches by Mr. Lang The Phuong, a resident of Than Muoi Village in Chi Lang Commune, Lang Son Province. Grown right outside his front door, the massive 53-kilogram entity had to be strapped onto a motorcycle just to be hauled to the local market for sale.
The moment this anomalously large fruit materialized at the market, its unprecedented scale sent a shockwave of curiosity through the crowd. Dozens of market-goers froze in their tracks, crowding around the display to gaze at the botanical spectacle, snap photos, and interrogate the owner about its bizarre origins.
Ms. Luu Thi Lan, a local market vendor, stepped forward to claim the giant, purchasing it for 500,000 VND to slice and sell to eager customers. According to Ms. Lan, when the blade finally pierced the thick, thorny rind, it revealed a flawless interior. The perfectly uniform flesh radiated an intense, golden hue, completely untouched by insects or decay.
“The sheer scale of the fruit gripped everyone’s curiosity,” Ms. Lan recalled. “Once we split it open and they saw how beautiful the golden flesh looked, the crowd swarmed. It was completely stripped clean in mere moments.”

Many rushed to buy a few segments, driven not just by appetite but by a deep fascination with the strange anomaly. For these buyers, tasting the flesh of a fruit weighing over half a quintal offered a rare, uniquely memorable experience in their ordinary market routine.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Lang Viet Hung, the son of the harvester, revealed the history behind the 53-kilogram giant. The tree that birthed this colossus had been quietly growing in the family’s yard for over a decade.
Mysteriously, the tree belongs to no elite pedigree, nor did it receive any specialized agricultural care. Instead, it sprouted from a lone seed saved from an ordinary Thai jackfruit that Mr. Phuong had purchased at a market years ago.

“Years ago, my father went to the market, bought a Thai jackfruit to eat, and planted the seed,” Mr. Hung said. “The tree has stood there for over ten years now. We never gave it any special fertilizer or care; we just left it to nature.”
According to Mr. Hung, in previous years, the tree consistently bore fruit, but their weights never crossed ordinary limits. Yields usually hovered around 14 to 15 kilograms, with an occasional peak at 20 kilograms.
While a few other trees in the family garden had occasionally produced heavy yields of 22 to 23 kilograms, absolutely nothing in their history ever prepared them for a mutation reaching a staggering 53 kilograms.
“This year, the tree bore very few fruits, leaving just one solitary giant to absorb all the nutrients and swell to this monstrous size,” Mr. Hung shared. “This is, without a doubt, the most extraordinary thing our family has ever witnessed from that garden.”
The family currently tends to three or four jackfruit trees scattered around their property. Now that this 53-kilogram titan has been harvested and sold, the garden remains quiet, with no other fruits approaching its eerie dimensions.
As the fruit swelled uncontrollably, the family grew worried it would snap from the branch, forcing them to bind it securely with heavy ropes to prevent a catastrophic fall. Mr. Hung noted that the giant grew at eye level, roughly hanging at human height, which made tracking its ripening and executing the final harvest surprisingly convenient.
“We were worried the sheer weight would cause it to plummet, so we had to lash it down with ropes,” Mr. Hung recalled. “Fortunately, it hung right at chest level, not too high up in the canopy.”
When asked why they chose not to consume it themselves, Mr. Hung admitted the true scale of the fruit was overwhelming. Knowing his family could never finish such a massive entity before it spoiled, they resolved to bring it to the market, avoiding waste while turning a modest profit.
“It was simply too massive; we could never finish it. That is why we had to sell it,” Mr. Hung added.
Ms. Ngo Thi Diem, a resident of Chi Lang Commune, observed that the tale of the giant fruit brought a pure, simple joy to the marketplace.
She mentioned that while some onlookers whispered that 500,000 VND was far too cheap for a 53-kilogram anomaly—suggesting it could command a fortune elsewhere—such calculations mattered little in their quiet mountain town. For them, a happy buyer, a satisfied seller, and a rare chance for the community to witness a marvel of nature together was more than enough.

Confirming the phenomenon to reporters, the leadership of the Chi Lang Commune People’s Committee verified that the legendary jackfruit was indeed cultivated entirely within the private gates of a household in Than Muoi Village.
Yet, in a striking reminder of the land’s mysterious fertility, officials noted this was not an isolated miracle. The region had once brought forth an even heavier colossus, weighing a staggering 56 kilograms.
