On the morning of October 6, 2026, local resident Huynh Ka recorded an extraordinary wildlife encounter roughly one nautical mile off Phu Quy Island.

According to his account, over 1,000 dolphins alongside several blue whales surfaced during their year-end seasonal migration. As a lifelong coastal native, he confessed he had never witnessed such an immense pod since childhood.

The shared footage swiftly went viral on social media. What captivated viewers was not just the sheer estimated headcount, but also the astonishing proximity between the marine mammals and the moving vessel.

The dolphins surfaced continuously, swam parallel alongside the boat’s hull, and launched themselves into the air, creating a vibrant spectacle amidst cheers from those on board.
Local mariners noted that marine mammals occasionally visit Phu Quy waters toward year-end or early spring when sea conditions remain calm. Observers suggest developing responsible dolphin- and whale-watching tours could turn these seasonal migrations into a standout eco-tourism draw.
